This is getting ridiculous

I specifically purchased NordVPN so I could use a UK server which would allow me to access otherwise unavailable content on the BBC Sounds app. I’ve since come to appreciate the benefits of having a VPN and can’t imagine not having one at all now.

But, for the last week or two, I can barely use the BBC Sounds app because running Nord - even on a UK server! - is interfering with the app and making it insanely glitchy. This is the cherry on the top of the crap sundae of internet/wifi interferences that have been happening in recent months while running Nord.

I’ve posted about issues before and the responses seem all over the map - some having no problems, some having some problems - but no suggested solutions or reasons why this might be happening.

Any helpful information would be very appreciated. Thanks.

The BBC is a tricky one. They’re very quick on blocking more public VPNs. I have NordVPN and have paid for a dedicated IP address for several years now because of this. I’ve never had any issues connection on my dedicated IP address.

One of the best features of Nord is their Smart DNS. I watch iTVX daily with no glitches. I hardly ever use their VPN. Check it out.

This morning I downloaded several shows on the BBC Sounds app via Nord to listen to during the week on my commute. No issues here.

Every so often I get a “Error” when a particular episode starts to download. Typically hitting retry works and triggers the download on the 2nd attempt. If I contine to have an issue I kill Sounds, reconnect via a different server and start over. Never had any significant issues.

For listening live, do you even need Nord? For me to live stream I dont need to spoof my location to the UK, only for downloading.

I’ve been having issues with BBC Sound myself of late and iPlayer hasn’t worked at all for nearly a month.

Have you tried just using Smart Dns, thats what I use to get all the US stuff from UK. I do use proton vpn on another device and I can get most of them on there too…

Try using obfuscated server

Could be something else interfering, I use it with no issues. Probably try cycling through servers

I use the whole library of bbc sounds without a vpn. I am located in the US and never needed one for bbc sounds

Have you contacted Nord’s support? If you already have, you can share the ticket ID with me, and I’ll forward it to their developer team to push the priority

It must be more on BBC’s side, they recently did a huge cleanup on YouTube and removed tons of material. I use it as well, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, have had more luck with their mobile app than PC browser tho.

I can’t use any Google services unless I bookmark it with VPN OFF in order to later access pages WITH VPN. Every browser is affected :person_tipping_hand: some websites won’t allow me to access them, like Banana Republic for example :person_shrugging:

I have posted a couple of times about erratic connectivity too. Also Split Tunnelling just doesn’t work at all. Sent emails sit in the Outbox until I Pause Nord.

I use it less for streaming vs other downloading and privacy so my issues are less annoying than yours. I often just turn it off to avoid the hassles.
But I will be looking hard at whether to replace NordVPN at renewal time.

I think there might be some issues with your phone/laptop here, cause I’ve been using Nord on my laptop and phone to use BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds for the past whole month (was using this to stay upto date with Traitors UK and the Uncloaked Podcast on Sounds) and didn’t and still am not facing any issues.

use a different vpn. nord sucks.

This is good info. Thank you. I’ll add this to my trouble shooting list.

What does the dedicated IP address do please?

I generally just stream. Only download if I know I need off-line access

Same on iPlayer. Although oddly if I watch around an hour on Channel 4, I can get iPlayer to work, but not entirely reliable.

I have not but I’ll look into it. Thanks for the suggestion.
