(Total novice) How to check if the VPN works propellery with QBittorrent?

Hey,

I have been always downloading torrents with ease, but last month my internet provider forwarded me Notice of Claimed Infringement. No issues in my country, never even heard of needing VPN for safe torrenting.

So…

I checked for good VPNs, got Mullvad, got QBittorent for binding, did some digging. There is lots of words I do not understand as I am totally amateur in this area. I just wanted to highlight what I did so I won’t miss anything:

  1. Set my location for Sweden - server owned by Mullvad (dunno if location really matters or if it matters if this server belongs to Mullvad?),
  2. Killswitch is alwyas active, but I also enabled shutdown mode for precaution,
  3. I did bind the network interface within QBittorent with Mullvad choosing network interface → Mullvad.

Literally haven’t done anything else. Should I do anything more to be secure? Change some settings?

How can I check if the torrent is secure now? Just wanna be sure if I can safely download stuff, heh.

What country are you from?

Location doesn’t matter. I’m in US torrenting on US servers. Never got a complaint, because of the VPN. If the Killswitch is inconvenient for your other workflows, you can also disable that. Isn’t reliable and binding qbit is plenty enough.

This entirely depends on how much you trust your provider and the agency asking for records

Thanks, so basically enabling VPN and biding with torrent client is enough? Are there ways to double check if my torrent client is not leaking IP?

In a sense yes … you can always test this by connecting to your vpn… then opening Qbittorrent …. Then disconnect your vpn and see if the green globe on the. Orrin of Qbittorrent turns red immediately… that is just one way to test that your vpn is blind to Qbittorrent.
