They said in the email your price “might” go down for some countries, but I am expecting that for many (like me) it’s going up considerable, and it’s just PR to say it might go down.
The fact that they title it “global pricing update”, they don’t even tell you the new price in the email AND you gotta go through multiple links to find the new prices.
Yeah, if the math is right. I am going from $8.99 monthly to $13.99 (Canadian). This is just Twitch realizing how much of the pie they were losing from folks individually subscribing to creators to remove ads when they moved to Twitch Turbo and stopped renewing individual subs and/or choose to support creators via a more direct platform that has a better revenue split.
Need to save money, Twitch. Look at cutting the salaries of your top employees first!
Its more expensive than a VPN at this point which comes with all kinds of other advantages other than blocking twitch ads so I’m dropping my Turbo and switching to a VPN instead
I’m gonna have to keep turbo because I’m tired of the video player breaking on mobile which needs refreshed, only to keep showing ads in a constant loop. And at least I can watch twitch on my switch now if I ever care to again because the video player always broke on that once ads started. I don’t mind the price increase. I just don’t want ads anymore.
They may try to justify this price increase and say it goes to the streamer. After checking my earnings summary there is something saying that I now earn ad revenue from Turbo users that don’t see the ads.
This also changed the “ads” part of my earnings into “ads and twitch turbo”. Who’s to say how much more this will translate to and varies between every streamer based on audience size but based on these comments, it sounds like less people will be paying for it in general.
In the end they might earn the same amount of money from the increase + ads or simply lose money as the people paying more wont be sufficient for all the people opting out of turbo. Netflix got mass unsubscribed when they removed password sharing and they started putting back password sharing, if you pay for it, 2 days ago. How uninsightful can Twitch be to do this today. This is another of the many example of how Twitch is a pioneer in making bad decisions. Speaking of a 33% increase in price itself is way too much. Fingers crossed they’ll back this one out.
Are we able to vpn into one of the cheap countries and subscribe for turbo there?
I don’t wan to have to resort to adblockers, but I’m not paying more for no added value…
Used to be £7.42 UK now going to £11.99. No way doing that. Trying vpn. They havent even made uk cheaper cause £ is worth more than $. Thats bad lol 34% price increase?!
Turbo was good when it was 8.99 but why pay for it anymore when I still get ads on streams it’s not worth it at its new pricing may as well just get twitch prime
