Unable to connect to PIA servers, PIA not using the proxy server address and port specified in Windows settings

I am accessing internet from a wi-fi network in my University. I am certain PIA servers are not blocked by the university, as the android PIA app works well. However, the windows app fails to connect to the internet, which is most probably due to PIA software using no proxy server address and port to access the internet.
Is there any way to specify Proxy server address and port for PIA to use, just as we do in Windows Internet proxy settings?

Hey u/DarkForce1102 and u/PIAAnnaT was a solution to this issue ever found?

I have been having a similar issue where my PC need to connect thru a Proxy Server (non-transparent) to get to the internet and it is interfering with my PIA Client connecting to the Servers, regardless of my settings. Yet my Android Device doesn’t have any issues.

This is the only search result I have been able to find on this specific subject.

Hi u/DarkForce1102,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble connecting at your university! You can find the information for the L2TP/PPTP/SOCKS5 proxy here. Another suggestion we typically recommend with a block at a university would be to use TCP 443. If you require instructions on how to change ports, our support article here will help.

Let us know if that helps!

Unfortunately, I have found no working solution to this issue. You can still try to use OpenVPN with PIA configuration files. OpenVPN does provide an option to add a Proxy server address and port (directly into the config files). Look at this link to download OpenVPN configuration files. Look at this link for information regarding proxy settings in OpenVPN.

I was unable to gain success through this method too. However, that was most probably more due to my inexperience in configuring OpenVPN rather than a fault of the process.

If you get this working, please provide an update.

PIA is unable to connect even with TCP/443 as settings. However, I must reiterate that my android device is able to connect to PIA servers through the same network. This shows that PIA servers are not blocked by university. The PIA android app is able to pick up the network proxy settings (defined in individual wifi network settings) and hence is able to connect to internet.
To connect to the Internet here normally, I have to manually set up Proxy settings in (Settings>Network & Internet>Proxy) in Windows 10 to that provided by the university. Then only I am able to connect to the internet. However, what my suspicion is that PIA ignores those settings and tries to connect to internet directly, thus failing to connect.

I hope I am able to explain my situation here. I do not aim to create a local socks5 proxy to tunnel softwares through the PIA VPN network, I aim to allow PIA VPN to actually be able to reach its servers by connecting through a proxy server (as already defined).

thank you for the update.

Thank you for clarifying! Are you able to provide a screenshot of the settings on your Android device with the proxy settings? You can private message with that if you would like so that information isn’t public. Additionally, if you navigate to our homepage on your android device what is the IP that displays there?

Thank you for looking in to this issue. I have messaged you with links to screenshots.
