Howdy again,
I made a post on here about a week ago trying to figure out why talespire wasn’t loading anything and “looking for the best region” whenever I tried to make a new campaign. I understand that this is because I use a VPN but I’ve tried everything I can think of to stop it from affecting talespire but all of it has been for naught. Ftr, I use express VPN and I’ve tried using the “selected apps won’t use the VPN” feature on talespire.exe. Thanks for anything.
I’m gonna assume (maybe wrongly) talespire somewhat uses steam’ multiplayer backend, in which case are you sure it’s not steam causing the problem? Pretty sure valve has an open avversion to VPNs, and Express VPN is famous enough to have their serverfarms ip-blocked if they wished to do so (in which case you would have to find which of steam’s processes / services, maybe more than one, are used and exclude those)
Just an update, I tried uninstalling express VPN to see if anything would change and it has the exact same issue. I’m gonna try a reinstall but I even checked network connection to see if express was still there and it’s definitely gone.
I just want to make a thing
Based on their past dev blogs, I don’t think they use Steam’s backend at all. That’s why there’s invite codes to enter campaigns, rather than using invites via Steam or anything like that. They use a custom setup hosted on AWS.
Well, if it’s not the vpn it could be your firewall, your router’s firewall (unlikely if it’s on its default state), your ISP or you live in a region not covered by their servers (don’t know if it’s even a possibility, and if it was the case the vpn should be able to fix that, unless it’s blocked, but other vpns work, so…)
Well, then I guess it must be AWS blocking expressVPN. In any case I just tested out talespire on a shared US ip on torguard and everything worked, so either the latency / bandwith on OP’s vpn are not good enough or they are ip blocked
Just just another update, it’s working it looks like the problem is one of the wifi networks at the University I attend. Thanks for all your help over this time.
Yea. I’m not sure what it is on OP’s end, but I use talespire on Mullvad all the time without itssue. It has to be unique to express, or something weird about the choice of vpn server.
Guess it was indeed a firewall problem. Well, time to bribe the sysadmin of your university with a new 3070, eheh. Anyway, you are welcome and happy building. Btw the sync and backup system talespire uses is probably quite optimized regarding data usage, since storing data is expensive, so there is a good chance you wouldn’t even notice it on a mobile network, in case you still wanted to use it at university (and found a spot in which you can get any signal, where I go it gets over-saturated really quick)
