Use the UCSD VPN, its better than a proxy and allows you to be on the UCSD network outside of a browser
You can also use the vpn for reading science publications that would otherwise cost a lot of $$$
They also record your bandwidth quota, and getting caught for torrenting = global ban hammer.
This is how I watched Hulu and listened to Pandora while overseas.
If you use vpn.ucsd.edu and you use EasyConnect you’re safe.
If you install the VPN client and torrent and get caught you’ll get a DMCA violation notice and be blocked.
Why the library webpage doesn’t have the web version of VPN updated is beyond me… I’ve emailed them asking them to update the information already.
If anyone knows how to make OS X’s built-in VPN work with UCSD’s VPN, I’d love to hear about it. Connecting requires a shared key that’s baked into the AnyConnect client somewhere, but I haven’t been able to find it and apparently ACS has no idea what the key is.
