Hello! I’ve heard that you can use a VPN and change the location to India or Argentina and get YouTube Premium for ~2USD/month and I wanted to ask if anyone here has had success with it and if so, is there anything I should be looking out for?
I’ve read the general procedure is (1) log into google account (2) change location (3) buy using a (credit not debit?) card with low or no international fees (4) when asked about address, just find a random address in country of choice to use OR use own address but with a zip code from country of choice.
My parents recommended against it (especially with a debit card) because they were concerned about the information being compromised and if it is, I’ll have forfeited support from the bank. I’m assuming that YouTube is a pretty reputable company and the risk is comparatively low, but I am curious if anybody has had issues with it before? Or had their debit/credit card info stolen?
Note: I actually have ExpressVPN, not Nord, but I wanted to try this subreddit first because it’s more active. I’m assuming all the procedure is basically the same.
well, you theoretically could do it, i don’t see why it wouldn’t work. problem is, it’s 100% against the google terms of service, and if they bust you, you’d surely lose your google account and all the data therein. so, ask yourself if the savings are worth the potential headaches.
I’ve done this with no issue. You create a new account in Argentina and then sign up for a YouTube premium family plan. You then invite your main account to that plan. Costs me about $2.50 aud every month
Lots of people do it and I’ve never heard of something bad happening so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
Use a credit card (I would just say that generally it’s the best idea). I’m not sure how your details could be compromised… it’s still Google handling all of the payments.
So OP did you get it to work?
How is this supposed to work? I got everything set up with an old Gmail account in Argentina, created the family plan in Argentina.
When I tried to add my regular Google account it said “Looks like you’re in a different country than the family manager” but everything is still set to Argentina.
I considered this option, but youtube asks for a tax ID now. Is this something you guys encountered as well?
Sanity prevails. The only right answer. My Google account is at the centre of my internet usage. Would not want to lose it over saving a few bucks.
Ah that’s a good point, thank you! Since I only want to watch YouTube videos on my phone I could probably just make an alt/burner account and I think that would get around it, but I’d still worry about it getting back to me.
are you sure about that? i dont see anything in their terms of service that says it is not allowed
I’m curious to know how this is “100% against google terms of service”. I looked, but have not found anything specific. I do not disagree about the risk, but I’m just looking for the facts. Thanks.
Do you have any idea if this still works? It’s asking me for an address in Argentina lol

I didn’t try in the end. I’ll give it another shot in a month when I get a credit card in my name and report back.
I still haven’t tried it personally, being that I still don’t have my own credit card to risk, but that’s unfortunate to hear. If I ever get around to it, I’ll update the post with my own experiences. Good luck!
read the actual terms of service then. sure, legalese isn’t fun to read, but it’s the only way you’ll get your answer
Yes this still works. For the billing address you put your real house number and street, but for state you choose a state in Argentina and a postal code that is in the state you chose (which you can just google for one).
I can find the instructions i used if you’re still trying to work it out
