VPN country connecting to a different one?

Hi. So I recently bought AdGuard VPN again after a year or so since the last time I used it. Now, when I want to connect to Turkey, every time I visit a site it comes up in Romanian. It only goes to the Romanian version of the sites. Does anyone know what’s going on here and why their VPN has gone downhill in a year?? Anyone here or from AdGuard that can help?

Dunno what it is. I connect to the Netherlands and end up in Russia, of all places. At least, Google Chrome on Windows 11 is susceptible for this issue. Strange enough, other browsers like Edge, Brave and Firefox aren’t. Chrome on Mac is working well, too. I am not sure whether it is a Windows/Google issue or an AdguardVPN issue.

Hello there! Could you kindly connect to the Turkish server and check your location on Maxmind and on our test page? Additionally, please specify on which website you are experiencing the problem.

Sometimes, Google services encounter difficulties identifying the server locations frequently used by Russian-speaking users worldwide. This mainly affects our servers in Frankfurt and Helsinki, and occasionally other locations as well. As a result, Google receives numerous search queries in Russian from these servers and mistakenly assumes they are located in Russia. Our team is closely monitoring the situation and actively working towards finding a solution. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding.

Thanks. It is completely useless on iOS. I Will try on my pc and Mac with different browsers.

Hi u/Ad_h3lper. I tried the two Pages. It says Turkey. The two sites I have trouble with, that I didn’t have trouble with last year, was Netflix and Disney Plus website.

Oh. And I was running this test on iOS safari. On windows 11 chrome I had the same issue

Thanks for your information. But it is weird that Chrome on my Mac is acting normal, and Chrome on Windows has this strange behavior. And that other browsers on both platforms are unaffected. Maybe it has something to do with the technical software differences between MacOS and Windows?

Meanwhile Chrome has updated to version 115, and now the issue has vanished completely. Well, at least, so far. Perhaps, Google already knew about this issue?

If all geo IP services accurately identify the location of the server, there may not be much we can do in this situation. Unfortunately, we are unaware of the specific IP address matching databases used by these websites.

Nonetheless, I have notified our specialists about the issue, and they will investigate to see what actions can be taken in this situation.

Thank you. A lot of other sites also identifies the Turkish vpn as a Romanian. I hope you guys can do something about it.

Could you please provide us with additional examples of websites where the issue persists? This will allow us to thoroughly investigate the matter.

swarowski.com for example. All major sites to be honest. Only ones not showing Romanian when I have VPN on are other VPN sites.
