VPN not working?

I’m trying to use a VPN to watch a show on Netflix that is not available in my country. It is available in the US though (a friend that lives there told me he just watched it last month and a website that was updated last week said that the show was available in the US). But when I use my VPN, nothing changes and the series isn’t there when I search it up

When I use whatismyipaddress.com, it says that I am in the United States, so I should be able to see it

Does anyone know what I can do?

Just get a residential personal proxy in the location you want the content. It really is that simple

Netflix doesn’t rely on IP addresses for regional contents anymore. Your account is linked to your region regardless if you use VPN to use a different IP address. Or even if you travel to a different country.

Also keep in mind that Netflix will detect your US ip address and flag your account too as you can’t share accounts anymore, the Netflix servers will think you are sharing your account with someone in the US.

Old happy days are gone

This is my understanding

Netflix is a little more tricky. They’ve been in financial trouble + they have the legal obligation to the people who they license content from to put serious effort into disrupting attempts at circumventing their region blocking. That said, you’ve received some bang-on information already which I’ll add to:

  • Netflix does in fact blacklist VPN IPs. They’ve admitted to it in the past.
  • Netflix does in fact flag accounts - they do this to accounts who try and access their service from an IP that “does not make sense” or trips some other pre-defined logic. When this happens, it basically forces you to the general catalog of Netflix titles if not from an ISP IP address in the same general region your payment method is registered. This makes any use of any VPN for Netflix completely useless for the foreseeable future.
  • A residential proxy is not a bad choice, but for some it may not be easy to obtain since the real money there is in bulk subscriptions and not individual ones… meaning there aren’t nearly as many options as there were… say… 3 or so years ago. It should also be noted that they are not immune to blacklisting either. Netflix is willing to take the hit for a small number of unhappy people so that they can keep to the terms of their media licenses.

which one would you recommend?

That’s completely wrong. Your VPN’s ip address was probably blocked by Netflix. Happens with free VPNs a lot.

I’m not using a free vpn and I’ve heard that the one I am using should work with Netflix

Well the US is big, try different servers. If it’s a good VPN it’s bound to have multiple in the US.
