VPN Protocol options not available due to restrictive network?
Its happening because your ISP and your country is Restrictive ( blocking / shaping ) vpn traffic , Surfshark now only shows you special servers and protocols which might work , Wireguard and Ikev are easier to block so you likely have now only Open VPN as protocols.
Hey, it is as several Redditors mentioned under this post - you get fewer locations to choose from and you can’t change the protocol, so you have the greatest chance to connect in a restricted region (Turkey, in your case). This is how our NoBorders feature works and you can always disable it in Settings - VPN Settings - Advanced security if you’d like to try changing protocols and connecting to more locations.
That being said, manual connection via the OpenVPN or Wireguard apps still remains the best connection method in Turkey at the moment.
I live in Turkey and I was under the impression that changing the protocol or manual connection was the designated work around for connecting to Surfshark. I updated the application and I can no longer change the VPN protocol in settings. What am I supposed to do now?
if the service isn’t working (regardless of the 30-day refund/trial period) you are entitled to your money back from Surfshark - they cannot keep it if they’ve sold you something that doesn’t do what it is supposed to do.
Ok, app doesn’t show some protocols, but Why does it hide some of the servers (countries) to which you can successfully connect manually?
This is because you are in a network restricted area. For example wireguard (a protocol), its default trafic can be very easy identified from other traffic like http and https, therefore easy to block.
not sure why , Manual OVPN config is anyway more robust vs restrictive networks , maybe its also just luck.
