I often hear it is simply necessary when I use the internet to have a VPN. So I wonder, do I really miss out on something noteworthy without one? Is it really so great and this must-have thing they promote it to be?
I mean using a VPN really depends on what you’re aiming to protect.
If you’re concerned about privacy on public Wi-Fi, avoiding ISP tracking, or accessing content restricted by location, a VPN is super helpful. But for basic browsing at home, it’s more of a personal choice.
If you’re trying to figure out which VPN features might suit you best, there’s a comparison table on r/VPN. Check that out: https://www.reddit.com/r/VPN/comments/m736zt/vpn_comparison_table/
I don’t know why these VPN providers say i can get US Netflix using their vpn. It’s bs. Netflix is not dumb. They know many try using vpn to get other countries’ Netflix or Hulu or US prime video. I tried a few times and every time Netflix says that I’m using a proxy and can’t proceed to create an account to watch US Netflix. Now they even ask for a US mobile number. Another problem with vpn is it can’t help you search for stuff to buy or read coz it will show you another country’s information, whichever country the vpn is connected to. So you can’t get personalised recommendations and information
And beware: Some VPNs advertise you can try it for 30 days, then quit. No charge. Sure, why not? I signed up, then thought it through more and came to the conclusions of this thread, that I didn’t really need one. Told them to cancel it. They said, Why? What’s wrong? Can we help? I replied what I said above, and they again demurred.
Don’t know if they ever cancelled me. I asked my credit card to cancel the charge.
This comment is from Netflix password sharing era. So this might have changed. But where you make the Netflix account or where you pay from don’t matter. It’s the country you access from that determine the content. My family shared account across countries and we got content from the country. Not where it was made it.
PS: Getting US Netflix is not a plus as there’s so many streaming services here. Getting Netflix from a third world country would be a + as they have all the content in Netflix.
Thats not even a VPN thing, pretty much any service that lets you try it free will try their best to keep you from cancelling, I simply don’t bother with free trials if I have to enter any kind of payment info.
