VPS better to mask location than VPN

Hey all,

I am a trader that likes to travel, but some countries are blocked by my broker. How would I be able to go about accessing my trading broker on the go without getting flagged?

I don’t even like to trade when not at my workstation, but reviewing trades/data is something I like to do during leasure time, it helps me improve and stay sharp.

I use a combination of desktop software (ninjatrader) & web based software (tradingview).

What would be the best waterproof way to go about this without getting flagged?
A VPS? A VPN with dedicated IP? A combination? Anything else? Would appreciate the help!

Thanks

Depends if they block only known VPN endpoints or all known datacenter IPs. Blocking known VPN endpoints is much more common. But some websites block all known datacenter IPs (using third-party analytics services that attempt to classify IP ranges based on usage). Some VPS companies offer VMs with residential-classified IPs, but I have no idea what happens when they get “caught” and their IP range is reclassified to datacenter.

Yo, listen up!

So, you’re out here, trying to make moves in the trading game, but your broker’s putting up blockades like it’s nobody’s business. Ain’t nobody got time for that, right?

Well, check it: You gotta get yourself a Virtual Private Server (VPS), straight up. None of that mainstream cloud stuff, nah, that’s too hot for the streets. Find yourself a low-key provider with IPs that fly under the radar.

Once you got that VPS locked down, it’s time to fortify it like Fort Knox. Install Ubuntu 22.04 and tighten up security. Update, upgrade, change ssh ports, set up them keys, shut down password access… Ain’t nobody getting through that fortress, no way, no how.

Now, here’s where the magic happens. Throw down Tailscale on that VPS and plug it into your network. Make that VPS your exit node, your ticket outta dodge when you’re on the move.

But yo, before you hit the road, check your VPS IP. Make sure it ain’t on no blacklist, 'cause that’ll put a serious dent in your plans.

And here’s a little extra flavor: set up them custom DNS servers in Tailscale. Cloudflare’s got your back, keeping you under the radar while you do your thing.

When you’re out there, away from your home turf, just tap into Tailscale on your devices and ride that VPS like it’s your own personal expressway to the trading floor. No boundaries, no restrictions, just straight-up freedom to handle your business wherever you roam.

Stay sharp, stay street smart, and keep them trades coming in hot. That’s how we do it in the Bronx.

Extra ball:

Check “linpeas git hub” for harden your box.
Tailscale just need “some times” only one port to work. Just run: sudo ufw allow 41641/udp and lockdown everything else.

The best solution is to install a VPN server at your house, so you get your home IP address. If your home router does not support this, you can buy a low-end GL iNet router, and use it as a VPN server. I use a mixture of VPS running as VPN servers, and a VPN router at a family members house so I can look like I am in the US when I travel.

Recently, I tried to open a new account with an existing brokerage company I use, over one of my VPS running as a VPN server, and it would not let me create the new account, but it would let me access all my current accounts. The next day, I tried it again using the VPN server at my family members house, and it worked. For some services, you need a residential address.

Thanks for the answer!

Yo what up homie it’s Tony I appreciate this reply for sure!! I will do my due diligence and try my best to figure out how to go about this process. I’m obviously a rookie but I think I can figure out a scheme based on this info.

So if I understand correct, with a low key vps provider you mean one that isn’t well known so it most likely won’t get picked up as a datacenter right?

Thanks for the comment bro I will look into this

I will look into this thank you
