What exactly can VPNs hide from WiFi network administrators?

Possibly a stupid question - but I’m also non-technical and I’m not currently in a position to just ask Google. The network traffic at home is monitored, so I just wanted to know a few things:

  1. What does it show to the WiFi admin if you use apps over WiFi with VPN? Let’s say you’re on the Reddit app searching for whether or not the admins can see your searches - is that traceable over VPN? Like does it show the Reddit app server being accessed or just protonvpn?

  2. Similarly, does it show what websites we go to?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but thanks for answering!

if they don’t have access to your device, but inly see network traffic: they see only you connection to the von server.

So they wouldn’t see, if you watch porn.

I they have also access to your device, the VPN won’t help too much.
