I used it before and liked it, and often see it suggested here, however I no longer see it top any listed at those av testing sites so I switched to Bitdefender (the free version)
What proof is out there that eset is still a solid product (better or equal than Bitdefender free version for example)?
Thanks!
There are trials held for ranking antiviruses, check those out.
Eset is still good, they just don’t spend as much money to promote themselves on review sites.
I would never recommend it. Their IT support is non existent. I had issue configuring browsing protection and those guys stopped responding and starting closing tickets without working on those. And I was a premium paying customer.
Dumped it right there and never turned back. I have in my time worked with support from Norton and Bitdefender and they both were fantastic. Although Norton as an AV became garbage now. That is why I only vouch for Kaspersky and Bitdefender.
Late reply, I have been using ESET since 2022. It’s great.
ESET does everything okay. That’s the best I can explain this unimpressive security suite. Kaspersky was the best suite on the market. Their System Watcher is as good as it gets at detecting and reversing ransonware. ESET really doesn’t have an answer for this. Their ransomware protection is not very good. Intel Threat Detection Technology is what they offer. Not good enough. So unhappy with ESET. Like I said it does everything okay and nothing good or great
I use both Eset and Kaspersky between my 3 machines, I trust Esets ability to protect my machine and it’s not resource heavy like alot of other providers.
Most sites that review AVs are either paid reviews or ads to promote the likes of Norton or McAfee. The only downside really to Eset is it’s price it’s on the more expensive end of the spectrum
Okay, so here’s the thing about AV: It is more than possible to bypass it (ESET, McAfee, Malwarebytes, whatever), stopping a threat actor that puts an ounce worth of effort into evasion and obfuscation will more often than not bypass any AV software on the market.
It’s how incidents at multi-billion dollar companies happen. Sometimes you just need to have an ounce of faith in the product you’ve chosen and supplement it with good hygiene. i.e. Don’t download random things, dont run random things, don’t run pirated games and use an ounce of common sense when using your device.
I have been with ESET for nearly 14 years and number of my systems run ESS
From my observations over the years and today in nearly 2024 I can make few comments and why ESET is becoming less attractive and its worth look elsewhere. ESET’s big + was always lightweight, very easy on resources, that is slowly changing as I feel and I asked # of other users, its more system hug that makes it on par with competitors.
Another reason I am slowly considering looking elsewhere is that lately from time to time we see popups with their offers of other ad-ons and ESET related products, which can be intrusive and not something I’m willing to put up with, if I want anything else of theirs I know where to look, otherwise this should be users choice to have on or off and its not the case.
ESET is still decent, but I can see changes are coming faster each update and the changes are step backwards e.g. heavier on system, pushing other eset products via popups and their customer support on both ends, forum and via tickets is slowly degrading.
kaspersky is russian trash
F-Secure actually has even better ratings than both of these on www.av-comparatives.org.
Ok but where your trust of its ability come from?
Kaspersky System Watcher is a step above any other security suite on the market. ESETs answer-Intel Threat Detection Technology. The difference is night and day.
Unfortunately Kaspersky got banned( I still have over a year on my license) and I switched to ESET. I’m not very happy
I’ve been using it a bit more than 20 years, since the old Nod32 days. And to be honest… I’m not getting any of those ads you are talking about…?
Also, performance wise I wouldn’t really know since I usually drive top tier computers due to my job, but I rarely see any process using a big chunk of my CPU or SSD at any point that isn’t me actively doing a test…
You can turn off those popups and notifications. Every security suite does annoying stuff like that. It’s unfortunate but at least they allow you to turn it off
Your opinion. Works fine for me
It’s never caused me any problems, it’s always been great at finding viruses on my computer
Iv been using Eset on and off for about 15 years and never had an issue.
They had a cutting edge and threatened the AV market with their detection of potentially new viruses on client machines.
Don’t take advice from this guy.
ESET used to perform really bad for a long time. its ability to detect and block malware has been improved lately but its still not good enough to justify paying the money it costs.
