I know using a VPN to book travel can often result in lower prices, but what is the best way to use it? What are the best counties, state, or regions you have found?
I really want someone to show proof, including all taxes and everything. I believe this is just bullshit pushed by VPN companies.
They say the same about “stream your favorite shows from another country”. I worked as a dev on a streaming product in 2012 and it was trivial for us to detect real user location and geo block content or require extra payment.
I know that foreign airlines sometimes have better rates when you use an IP for their country.
Proof is LAN, then LAN Chile now LATAM. Booking a flight to South America is cheaper if it originates in Peru, Chile and Argentina.
I forgot where, but there was something posted a week ago about rental cars in the US. There were screenshots of the US price versus the German price when booking through the Avis(?) website. The .de site was much cheaper.
I’d love to know if this phenomenon exists for the airlines.
I do know that the streaming works, unsure how exactly airline fares change.

This . A lot of times different countries have different regulations on what they need to show as the “price” so what is shown can be a price before taxes and fees but the actual final price may be the same. USA in particular is pretty loose with this so a lot of our prices seem lower but will be a shock at checkout where all the fees and taxes kick in. Europeans may look at US prices and think its the final prices like how prices are displayed in Europe
Yeah, I went on a rant a bit. VPN mostly works for streaming although I don’t know why because DRM software (which is required for all streaming apps) knows exactly where you are. It’s built right into core of the operating system and can go above/around any VPN settings.
