What's the best alternative to Kaspersky?

After Kaspersky got taken out for whatever reason, I’m looking to upgrade my anti virus from garbage trend micro something close to Kaspersky. I would appreciate it if you would recommend something with minimal to no spyware, and something that is competent to combat the new and most dangerous malware. I’ll take any and all advice as well. Thank you for time folks.

Bitdefender is the closest competitor to Kaspersky. It tends to handle unknown malware better than other AVs. That being said, ESET, F-Secure or Sophos Home are all good options too.

Hello.

Close to Kaspersky? Do you mean Proactive Protection, or a massive Database (“Updates”) for the sea of Threats?

If either of those is what you are looking for I’d pick any of these;

G data, Malwarebytes, F-secure, or simply BitDefender.

All of those I recommend is PAID services, so you can get (Hopefully…) professional help if anything critical happends.

I’m planning to switch to Sophos Home Premium, anyone has bad experience with them? I saw older post mentioning it’s difficult to uninstall.
Also considering Bitdefender as is recommended a lot around here.

ESET or Deep Instinct.
Bitdefender is a resource hog with so-so detection capabilities, not sure why everyone keeps recommending it. :man_shrugging:t3:

I personally use G DATA, but I hear great things about Bitdefender and ESET, so I would recommend one of those

BitDefender uses the same definition database, ESET is really good. And windows defender is all you actually need.

Emsisoft and Eset is a good choice, but for free version then maybe Bitdefender free

Comodo is focused on sandboxing which is a have huge feature.

Bitdefender is quite buggy where a users customized settings doesn’t stick/hold upon pc restart.

I just got the email stating that Kaspersky is banned, and I need a new complete “Total Security” antivirus/antispyware program like K. I have read through this thread, and many say Bitdefender. I had Norton years ago and started using Kaspersky’s because it was recommended.

Question- is Bitdeferner the best paid total program out there? Personal use here for multiple family computers.

TIA

curious as to your opinion on Trend, why do you think it’s garbage? They’ve been a leader in home & enterprise security for years

Not saying this might be possible for anyone who wishes to use Kaspersky in the US still, but it might work or not work if you use a VPN to another close country such as Canada or Mexico and conduct an update every other day or weekly. Haven’t or have tried this and was successful or not. Just sayinggggg…

The back forth between two knowledgeable people is far from annoying or childish etc. Its sensible, calm and full of very helpful information. I learned a lot between the two of you. Still don’t have a definitive answer though as a result lol :face_savoring_food:

Windows Defender if you just use your PC for browsing/gaming/general use. If you torrent or otherwise do sketchy things, probably Bitdefender.

Clearly you lack knowledge regarding Bitdefender. That’s why you don’t understand why everyone keeps recommending it.

Bitdefender doesn’t use the same definition database as Kaspersky. BD has their own technology and definitions they license to 180+ companies like G Data, Total Defense, Emsisoft, Hitman Pro, Vipre, etc.

They’re not the same, they’re just both very well performing. Windows Defender is not as good.

Stay away from Emsisoft. It is not a good choice at all. They only talk about how many layers of protetion they have until you get infected … wish I could refund my license.

I spoke to Kaspersky about this using a vpn to get updates, it will only work if you have global key on your account, FYI
