I’ve taken off secure DNS like I was told to and it still won’t work.
I had Blokada5 working on my Chromebook without any problems. It’s got no problem running VPNs and seems to do so in exactly the same way that you would on any Android phone (ChromeOS isn’t a bastardized version of Android, btw. Because it’s not Android at all. It’s Linux, or Linux based anyway. Android is also but it’s much further from what you’d find in any desktop Linux distro. It really only shares the Kernel and a handful of other components so it’d probably be more accurate to say that Android is a bastardized version of Linux, which is also why some Android apps aren’t compatible with Chromebooks/ChromeOS. Though in truth, it seems most often to be an issue of scaling bc while some apps simply aren’t able to be DL’d from the Play Store or rather simply doesn’t show up when searching for it, if you put your Chromebook in developer mode you can DL from any 3rd party source and therefore DL and install any number of “incompatible” apps and 9/10 of them DL and install just fine however a couple of those will display all manner of quirks/glitches and straight up crashes. even in those cases, most times the app launched and more often than not you get a few seconds in until things go to shit. it’s hard to explain but it seems like they’re almost functional/compatible, it’s just that last 10-20% of shit that it turns out are make or break loc lol. anyway, if you aren’t able to find an app you really want/need, either see if there’s a Linux alternative (Flatpak and Snap packages have brought all sort of apps to Linux that I never thought we’d see, mostsly because they’re super proprietary). As such, if it will run a VPN like any recent AndroidOS would then it can go the “fake VPN” route Blokada4 and 5 take to provide ad-blocking
However, I recently purchased a year long Blokada Cloud subscription so I could run my actual VPN and Blokada simultaneously and while it doesn’t work by default, you can “make” it work by toggling a couple of flags or “experiments”, as they seem to be referring to them as these days. I was actually about to enable them on my “new” (to me anyway) Pixelbook, which is a beast compared to my last Lenovo CB, which was also ARM-based which meant there were all sorts of additional limitations when it came to running Linux on it = half the reason I got the Pixelbook TBH. Anyway, I stopped off here because like an idiot I didn’t save the post and this thread popped up in my Google results. Long story short, if I don’t forget and they work to get Blokada Cloud working for my Chrome/Pixelbook, I’ll come back here and post the steps to follow and/or link to them.
(in the event I forget, which not gonna lie is probably 50/50, the post was on the official Blokada forum. That much I know for certain. Also, if it helps, I posted in the thread; I think my username on that forum is actually my Github username, which is boognish-rising. You can’t miss it… It’s got Chromebook and DNS and cloud all right there in the title… All this may be moot though, bc I might surprise everyone, myself included and report straight back here with my findings. Stay tuned)
Wow over 250 views and nobody will help me thank you
-
Log in to your Chromebook and click the system tray at the bottom right of your display.
-
From that popup, click the gear icon to open the Settings app.
-
In the resulting window click Security and Privacy.
-
In the Security and Privacy section, you’ll see the Use secure DNS option.
-
Click the ON/OFF slider to Use secure DNS until it’s in the ON position.
You can then enter your Blockada cloud address there
According to the web article I found this approach does work on ChromeOS 103.0.5045.0
The general reason Android apps don’t work on Chromebook is that it is an adulterated version of Android at best and won’t run the apps properly as they were intended. ChromeOS is a desktop experience, something most Android apps were never intended or even developed for quite simply.
Looks like you got some help. Frankly, I think I know only 1 person with a Chromebook.
Yea well it’s definitely not the best device. I personally just use it bc everything I use it Google so that everything syncs together
I probably will dualboot it and get Linux on this thing
Also their answer doesn’t work lol so ig no blokada for me
Doesn’t look promising for blokada cloud on Chromebook.

Not sure about v4 or v5 blokada app on Chromebook. What version were you trying to use on Chromebook?
I was trying to use blokada 5 libre and I also tried the slim one from the playstore
I think my solution is going to be getting Firefox via the Linux terminal bc ik Firefox has always been good at blocking trackers
Blokada slim is a dns changer only. Not an ad\tracker blocker.
Yeah. That might be your best choice on the Chromebook.
Will the Chromebook let you install extensions to chrome like ublock origin?
Yea I think I could get extensions like that but I think I’ll just use Firefox
It was my primary browser before I got the chromebook anyways
