Serious, what is the catch?
If you pay monthly, Surfshark is actually more expensive than some popular VPN services.
Surfshark is cheap only if you go for a long contract with them what means if you run into the issues or change your mind in the middle of contract term they keep your money even if you no longer use their service. And even with long contract it’s only $1.50-2.80 cheaper per month than many VPN services so I wouldn’t say the price is that incredible.
You experience may vary, but some people reporting that Surfshark isn’t the fastest, especially in torrenting, and you get website captchas or unable to access websites that filter VPN connections more frequent than with some pricier alternatives.
And the last thing I read about, it may not matter for everyone but Surfshark is based in Netherlands and a part of the 9-Eyes intelligence alliance. While they have no logs policy and RAM servers, some people don’t feel secure using VPN that is being part of the alliance.
I beta tested SurfShark for a year. Then signed up for two years. It was cheap for me for those two years. When I decided to extend for a third year they raised the price by over 400%.
I use AirVPN now.
Not sure, but I’ve been quite happy with my 82% discount and unlimited device connections for over 2 years now.
I’ve only ever had to contact support once, and they were quite prompt with the reply.
Based on my experience, Surfshark is only cheap if you pay for 2+ years. Also their iOS app is terrible, extensions do not work and the vpn takes multiple attempts to connect.
The only silver lining was that I contacted support and they were prompt and even gave me a full refund (I did contact them within my first week as the experience was so bad)
I guess the catch is that you get a mediocre service that may or may not work for you. That is why it is cheap.
