WireGuard shows my IP address

Apologies if this has been covered before but I can’t seem to find an answer to my issue.

I have WG running on Ubuntu/Docker. I have the allowed IPs set to 0.0.0.0/0, ::/0.

When I google “what’s my IP” it shows my actual IP address. Shouldn’t this be showing something different other than my actual IP address or do I have a misunderstanding of what WG does?

WG tunnels your data to your WG server (Ubuntu/Docker). Thus your IP is the the public (!) IP your ISP associates with your network of the WG server.

Check the logs make sure it’s actually connected. It should show the IP Address of the wire guard server (public WAN). If your using an app that has split tunneling on make sure it’s applying to your browser.

If you run your own WG server from your LAN then you will always have your ISPs IP on all your connected peers.
If you want to hide your IP you need to use an external VPN service.
