Have you fired managers for working remotely on vacation?
This is just bs advice you’re giving. Often times even on vacation in another country you are on call and are required to bring your laptop and work as per business needs.
I highly doubt you’ve fired anyone for working remotely in another country, and if you have, you must be a small enough corp where you can get away with that BS.
But they can hire people in other locations and it’s OK?
u/MilkMyUtters brought up a good point. Aside from the legal trouble and potential unsafety of this situation, the best option would probably to just remote remote into your home network through something like Wireguard. Then connect to your main PC at home through remote desktop. Next you would connect to your banks servers like normal. You get the speed and solidity of ChaCha20 and connecting to your at-home PC which should mask any identification of being abroad. Also I believe remote desktop (rdp) have something like rc4 as it’s cipher.
Yeah, you made some really solid points. Understanding where so many things could go wrong (your VPN server goes down one day, you log into company resources when you’re not connected to your VPN, you don’t set up a kill switch, etc.) is what made me decide against trying this.
I know that I don’t know enough to risk trying this
Just install Duo. It’s free for like 10 users.
Not sure how video calls would work over RDP. Maybe someone can chime in to help. You need Windows Pro to use RDP
Actually, I have. You’re clearly not well versed in laws pertaining to various types of companies. Just because your company may allow it doesn’t mean they all do. I also work with state auditors in my field and in order to obtain certain certifications, you MUST align with certain policies. Any company that does business entertaining data locality laws are governed by this.
Install TeamViewer or Chrome Remote Desktop or don’t travel away from home. I don’t care, figure it out
Companies don’t “allow it” but they aren’t going to fire you for doing it.
Unless they were accessing HSPII and almost or actually causing a leak i just see that as an overreaction. But even then if it’s just like an employee salary or something that’s the HSPII a huge overreaction
