Xbox support regarding use of VPNs to redeem game keys
It’s very simple.
We all know we aren’t supposed to do this. So if you get caught and banned, don’t cry to Microsoft.

I simply change the region on a Windows PC and redeem from the PC Store.
It’s so trivial for MS to block this. In fact their authentication protocol already has “impossible travel” as a rule out of the box.
If you have an Australian account, you logged in from an Aus IP then 2 minutes later you login from Turkey to redeem and Xbox Gold code, then you login from Aus to upgrade it to Gamepass Ultimate…. Well you can see how easy it is for them to stop this. Simply block impossible travel or redeeming codes from outside your registered country.
Of course they’ll say it’s against ToS. They’re not going to encourage. But I’ve been doing it for nearly 4 years now without issue. I’ll stop doing it when they block it and start coming down on it.

Well this stinks. I live in Eastern Canada and have relatives down in the US give me American xbox codes for redemption and thats like the only way i can redeem them without driving into the US some like 8 hours away

Used a few times, and zero problems so far. And to me it does not make sense to have a problem with that. Seems actually a bad practice from Microsoft to do so imo
Microsoft themselves know that people use this they just never banned people for it, there are reports of people’s gamepass being removed after buying it with a VPN tho.
Did you email them about using a VPN to redeem codes from other regions?
Until they block vpns from redeeming codes, it means nothing. I also don’t think there are any examples of people getting banned. So

I just buy the code for my country, EU or global so I don’t ever have to use vpn
Everytime I search stuff up regarding this, it’s always the same: Everyone warning that Microsoft will ban you for doing this. Yet I still haven’t seen a single person actually report being banned for doing this.
Im guessing it’s just fear mongering so you stick to your reigon. Because even if you did use a VPN, you are still paying them at the end of the day so maybe that’s why they don’t ban anyone.

Why don’t people just buy used games? EBay and Mercari exist and most people on there sell their games at a low price because they want to get rid of em.
I’ve never needed to use a VPN to get things from other regions. Simply changing the location on the Xbox One and forward seems to do that all by itself!
I remember years ago with Games with Gold they had some game in Argentina but not elsewhere, so I just changed my region and I was able to get that game for free.
Even more commonly for me whenever the Spanish dub of a game is only available in Spaniard all I do is change it to Spain (sometimes Italy; only way for original “Dead Space” trilogy to be in Spanish) and redownload the game I already own.
I have wondered of the legal implications, but if it were illegal, why would Microsoft allow it at all?!
