Hi, I would like to have the Reddit and YouTube apps on Android working with VPN. The only way I was able to do this was with “Split tunneling” and exclude the two apps. But that means these apps are not using VPN and my actual IP address is visible for the Reddit and YouTube servers. Do you know how to have these apps working through the Proton VPN servers? I have tried all the available protocols, disabled Netshield and tried servers in different countries but all without succes.
Well, I don’t see why it shouldn’t work.
Never had any issues. Using Proton VPN 24/7.
I use both apps regularly, and I’ve never had a problem.
Get rid of that app and:
Add the official Wireguard app and add a few servers to it. Should work: it >requires android 5 and up. You need to create and download some WG.conf files >on your Proton account.
From this thread
Youtube app works for me, I use “fastest” country profile, at least watching content works. Is there a different part of the app that does not work for you?
As far as Reddit app… Could I possibly convince you to use web browser instead? The app seems to fall far from state of the art security and it kinda nullifies VPN and other privacy arrangements.
I am not on Android but in any platform I use, both Reddit and YT work with Proton VPN, no issues.
Thank you all for your comments, So it seems the problem is not a generic problem. I will re-install Proto VPN again on my phone and try again. Thanks!
One thing that really gets on my man b00bz about proton VPN is Reddit.
I activate the VPN and regardless of server, country or whatever - the home feed, what you see when you load the app does NOT refresh. I still see the same content that was there when i launched the app, wither it be 5 minutes or 5 hrs.
If I disable the VPN, works no bother.
iOS, iPhone 13 Pro Max
I have uninstalled the Reddit app, reinstalled and nothing, same thing.
I have used Proton VPN paid service for a while.
I had to reset my iPhone (for an unrelated issue), reinstalled the VPN and Reddit - same thing.
I don’t want to keep disabling the vpn for Reddit to refresh…
I have the same issues. Youtube stops working while on protonvpn.
Are you using Free or Plus servers?
