50% price hike for Dashlane 6 premium?

…ouch.

I’ll be taking my dollars elsewhere unless there’s a coupon or something to bring the price back down.

I get that Dashlane 6 adds VPN and secure file storage, but I already have those things. I don’t need (or want) Dashlane to do it, and I certainly don’t want to be forced to pay for it when I won’t use it.

The price increase and forcing users into a drastically higher price tier is really disappointing. I’d talked up dashlane for a while to a lot of folks, not sure I’ll continue as I don’t believe the value is there any more.

Add the 39.99 tier back without VPN features or something and I’m happy to stick by it… but jacking the price 50% is a good way to lose my business.

I migrated to Dashlane a little less than a month ago. Got an email yesterday morning saying my auto payments through PayPal were cancelled. Contacted support and they said that due to the price hike, when renewal comes around next July I’ll have to outright pay $60 instead of my normal $39. You think they would grandfather people in who have already paid.

I already use a standalone VPN. I don’t need Dashlane’s VPN. I 100% agree they should’ve kept a $39 option that was Dashlane as it was. If I didn’t already use a standalone VPN, I might see the value in $60. Even then, does Dashlane use it’s own DNS and protect from DNS leaks? How secure is their VPN? I suppose for an all-in-one solution it’s not terrible, but, for my purposes, I don’t believe I’ll be renewing come next year.

Dashlane has always irritated me at the $40 price point. It’s convenient software, but it’s tough to justify $40/year for it. My renewal hit in June and this will be the last renewal. Not sure who thought this was a good idea. The price hike triggering the paypal auto-renewal cancellation is sure to hurt their overall subscriber numbers… at least by 1. They would have been better served to start charging *new* customers the higher prices and left existing subscribers grandfathered in and auto-renewing (with or without the new feature that almost no one is going to care about).

Yea, there’s a good chance I’m out before my renewal. There are two of us using premium, and $80/year seemed a good value. We were taking full advantage of all of the features. $40 extra for a bunch of features we won’t touch is crazy.

I am writing these guys a scathing letter right now. I am paid up until next May at the old price. They will lose me too, if they don’t smart up. And to think, how many people I recommended get this service. I’ll be busy making recommendation take-backs all summer haha

Please everyone, go here and tell Dashlane your thoughts about their 50% price increase and your intention to move to a different service - https://support.dashlane.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

On their website and on the app I’m seeing 1 plan for $3.33 / mo - $39.96… where is this info about $60 coming from?

Spot on. I really liked Dashlane as a secure password manager and recommended it to friends as such. I don’t need it for those other services and won’t pay the higher price when my subscription runs out.

I just emailed them and said I’m moving back to RoboForm or I’ll try Sticky, @Keeper, etc. unless I hear from them very soon.

There are many other competitors rated just as highly.

I don’t need the VPN or file storage so I’m not paying for it. This is a pure money grab prettied up with a couple of weak so-called enhancements.

Fun fact: the Dashlane app (iOS at least) still allows you to renew at $39.99/year. Just did it myself.

Ridiculous price hikes for features I won’t even be using.

edit: $39.99/year not $39.99/mo

I renewed for five years back in February when stack social had a coupon. I wonder if they’ll let me stay?

Yep, ridiculously high now, will be going to another password manager. Anyone have a good recommendation for the place we should all jump to?

Forcing the VPN part doesn’t make sense, have it be an add on or come with the highest tier.

This is exactly it. I’m not saying that there’s not a place for $60/yr for VPN and secure file storage and whatever, but I’m not paying for Dashlane’s implementation of it when I already have things that I’ve validated that do those things for me.

I’m sure I’ll start looking at migrating away next month.

Or just make VPN/cloud storage as an adhoc option you can add on to your plan, or as part of a different tier.

IMHO this change is pretty poor, but I’m sure they’ve run business analytics on it.

I wrote them one earlier on their website using the feedback section under support.

It’s a pretty bad move

Just sent my request. Just curious: has anyone benefited from contacting the company?

Link?

I’m on their website also. It’s 4.99/mo (or $60 annually) for the lowest tier premium plan.

Also, your app may be out of date.

Wait, hang on…

The US annual dollar price is (12x3.33) $ 39.96 ?

But so is the annual Euro(pean) price: € 39.96. HOWEVER… $ 39.96 converted to Euros is actually € 34.85 (or GBP = £ 30.74) which means I’d have to pay some € 5 more (a little under $ 6) than US users. That’s not right either me thinks…

They cancelled my recurring PayPal with them. I wonder if they’d accept yours?

Even still, I’m not pleased about giving them money when they are heading this direction.

If you’re paid up, yeah, until your expiry date. Then you’ll be at new prices.
