Ik that free vpns are not recommended. I am a student and can’t afford to buy a vpn. Ive heard that Atlas VPN and Windscribe (with the 10gb cap) are good ones. I wanted your views and suggestions for a free vpn
Summary at the end of the post.
Windscribe, since it allows you to have 10GB free data plan/month.
Betternet would be my second choice here, since it has P2P support, but “only” 500MB/day. Now that’s 15GB/month, but you can’t download any larger torrents by using it only. Of course, you could just combine multiple free VPNs.
Tunnelbear and Hideme both offer 2GB/month, so if you combine these 4 together, you can torrent almost 30GB/month. Now I know it’s not that insane, but considering you can’t afford a paid VPN, I think you won’t be looking for torrenting 4K insane resolution movies whatsoever you want to torrent.
ProtonVPN free does not offer P2P support.
Summary:
Since most free VPNs have limited data plans, it might be worth trying to combine multiple providers, you should take a look at following:
Windscribe, Betternet, Tunnelbear and Hideme.
Hotspotshield offers the same data plan as Betternet, but its privacy policy is a little…concerning.
Privadovpn also offers 10gb/month free for torrents
Thanks! I’ll look into these, i wanted to torrent anime and 30GB/month looks like a fine deal.
I’m pretty sure hide me is 10GB/month and I’ve heard that it’s unlimited afterwards without the ability to pick a location
I have proton vpn but it doesn’t allow torrenting in the free version. Do you know any that allow torrenting or has p2p? Thanks for the reply
Thanks, I’ll check it out
Once i start earning myself I’ll get mullvad or windscribe
Summary as always at the bottom of the post.
You shouldn’t be “wasting” your data for anime torrenting though… I recommend using direct downloads (if you have an unstable internet connection) or streaming. There is a subreddit dedicated to anime piracy (guess what, it’s called r/animepiracy), but considering the fact that you are a student, heres a quick intro to anime piracy. There are lots of websites offering anime streaming for free, some of them even ad-free. However, they do not host their own servers where they store anime, most of them - in fact nearly all of them - are so called “scrapers”. Scraping is the process of embedding videos from servers that are not your own to your website, that’s the note you might see when visiting “legit” streaming websites saying “DMCA… we do not host any copyrighted materials we just redirect to them” or something like this. Now here, my technical knowledge might not be 100% correct, but I think you get what I’m trying to tell. The largest “hosts” are 9anime and gogoanime.
Recently, it has been mentioned on r/Piracy that outdated versions of the VLC player can get you hacked, which I guess you want to avoid, therefore, it is recommended to use UWP video players instead of classical ones. What is UWP? UWP (Universal Windows Platform) is basically Microsoft’s approach to achieve something similar like Apple’s sandbox, that is virus free. There were times when they tried to “force” everyone - especially developers - to use UWP instead of its “ancestors” WPF and Winforms, but fortunately, Microsoft noticed their mistake and corrected it in time. It is basically restricting the application’s “rights” on your computer and only allowing the application to be distributed through the Microsoft store, what again forces it to be up to date and so trying to eliminate vulnerable spots that might get you in trouble.
Summary:
You could use Tor Browser or the free version of ProtonVPN (afaik it has no data cap) for direct-downloading or streaming anime instead of torrenting, recommended websites are gogoanime(.ai) and 9anime(.to). Use UWP video players (VLC from the Microsoft store or the default Windows Player are both UWP) for your own safety.
Edit 1: Geez, I noticed how many times I repeated “might”
Edit 2: added correct subreddit where the VLC-problem was mentioned
Thanks! I had checked out r/animepiracy and piracy streaming websites, but most of them dont have good quality videos and subtitles and they scrape from other sites. As mentioned by many people on the subreddit, torrenting from nyaa.si (or other famous anime torrent sites) provides high quality and fansubs. I have a good Internet and there’s no cap. So ‘wasting’ data isn’t a problem. And the thing about media players that you mentioned is something I’ll look into, I’ve heard that mpv player and potplayer are some good players.
A little note: animixplay is the best streaming site I have seen so far and if you want to download torrent, you can use nyaa.si . Every information you need is included in the r/animepiracy index.
Animix and twist.moe are the two sites I’ve been using after aniwatch shut down. Twist doesn’t have AoT (they just have the movie) and Animix does have it but the quality is awful, the first ep (of S1) has good quality but after that its all downhill.
Here’s a sneak peek of /r/animepiracy using the top posts of the year!
