Hi folks
Noob here. I just purchased an AX68U to use as a vpn router with the existing fibre setup from my isp. The fibre combo modem is on the main floor and my desktop pc is upstairs and is connected wirelessly to the network. I don’t have a laptop
What I’d like to ask is where/how do I connect the AX68U in order to configure it as the vpn device of dual router setup?
Would it be done by using an ethernet port on my desktop and configuring from there, and once done move it downstairs and connect to the primary router?
Thank you in advance for your help
You can connect it to your fibre combo modem and then configurate your AX68U from there on. Don’t forget to either give a static IP to your AX68U or in the combo modem to make a dhcp reservation for it.
Also watch your IP addresses to avoid multiple NAT issues. If your ISP router is 192.168.1.1 for example, make the VPN router 192.168.10.1 or anything which isn’t “1”. This is on the LAN side of the router that is. For your VPN router’s static IP address on the first router it will be within its IP range (to use this example, say 192.168.1.2) . Hope that doesn’t confuse.
Also, I recommend using powerline adapters for wired connections instead of wireless. Much faster and more secure I have found. Also when you are configuring your router, it’s best to use a wired connection anyway.
Thanks for your response!
In which case I will delay setting up the vpn router until I get a powerline kit. Cheers
All this extra expense and hassle just because I use my iPad more than any other device, but it isn’t secure with a vpn. Thanks Apple!
