So was using Plex and rebuildiong my library due to some DB corruption, when it updated the library details NordVPN suddenly stopped working and stated:
“Your subscription is expired”
Which was my first frustration as I had just renewed in January. So I got with the support people today who stated “it appears you were web scraping and we block any suspicious activity such as users who are web scrapping”, to which I have to wonder, how exactly are people supposed to use your VPN with Plex when using Plex automatically scrapes for the details of the material in the library.
Has anyone else seen this issue before? I mean it seems kind of crazy when a common media library management app causes your system to flag and block people simply due to how it functions, and how it has always been known to function.
You are unfortunately like the 10th post about this issue in the past couple of months.
The difference with your situation, is that you actually know what caused it. Most of the other people posting had no idea what happened and many didn’t know what web scraping even is.
I honestly don’t know what the solution is here, but if I were you, I would try to reach someone higher up than customer service. If Nord has a corporate office, then I’d be trying to find an email for someone there and send them a brief summary of what happened to you, plus let them know that this is happening to many others.
Their web scraping detection is either misconfigured or they will need to explicitly warn people which services/apps they can’t use with Nord to prevent this from happening.
I think other people weren’t using Plex, so there must be other apps or services that are also causing this to happen.
Hope you are able to get some kind of resolution from Nord, because that really sucks.
I guess Nord really wants to burn their own company into the ground by doing this shit. I have NEVER seen another provider take part in something as ridiculous as this. Innocent people are getting scammed out of hundreds of dollars for a service that gets cancelled for bullshit reasons like this.
Chargeback is your friend. Threaten to do it and they’ll refund you.
My account has been deactivated and I have no clue why… got a refund at least. They can burn in hell, kicking in the ass customers who have been with them for years.
They banned me too. I have two ideas what for: 1) my traffic was on the higher side for a few days, as I did multi-gigabyte backups. 2) my nordvpn runs from a hetzner server. Hetzner is a host to many spammers/scrappers etc.
