Can I ask what was your temporary workaround? I was looking to do the same thing on Apple TV

I ended up buying a cheap VPN with “Smart DNS” service. Then you just change the DNS in your ATV Settings > Network > Wifi > … > DNS and restart the device.
Since you don’t need all the security features for your AppleTV that Proton VPN / Express VPN offers, just google for one with decent speed and reliable uptime. Most of them offer trial to test first.
I tried Unlocator and CyberGhostVPN both with very good streaming performance. IPTV and 4k HDR streaming with no issues yet.

I know that you need to activate ATV mode on the imported profile from the MacOS app. And then it transfers the profile to ATV over cloud.
I had the MacOS & iOS version from before. And I had to purchase the ATV package as well to use this. But I DO recommend the app. And the developer is very active with support/ updates too.
You mean it has been talked about. Every plan as a goal.
