So Apple allowed tvOS to run a VPN client when the current major version released. Whelp, now we’re looking at the next major release of tvOS this fall and I haven’t heard diddly out of Proton about the tvOS client that’s supposedly coming. I was hoping to relocate my tvOS to Canada before American political ads get any more frequent Has anyone heard ANYTHING useful?
An Apple TV app is coming:
Apple TV support: Work has started, and we’re aiming for a summer 2024 release.

and you can expect Apple TV in the coming months)
On 2/13/24 it was marked as planned with 526 votes on the user voice.

Proton VPN for Apple TV was announced as part of the summer roadmap: https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtonVPN/s/sSC2p7WqQn
They said it would come after Wireguard for Linux beta, and Split Tunnelling for Android TV. Those have both been delivered so presumably Apple TV is next (and/or Stealth for Windows).
It’s the main reason I didn’t renew my annual membership and went with a competitor. I’m paying month to month now and will be happy with switch back to Proton but only when they have this feature.
Good luck with that. Proton is more focused on pumping out half baked products than improving their current products; the latest being proton scribe that got released a day ago. It’s been a long time since the MacOS client has released THEY STILL DONT SUPPORT PORT FORWARDING ON THEIR APP. Their linux client is crappy too.
People actually use Apple TV? Never met one yet.
Also, you can just use Invizbox device to connect AppleTV and any smart device (washing machine, fridge, robot vacuum) secured behind ProtonVPN connection: https://www.invizbox.com/invizbox-2-protonvpn/
Disclaimer: no affiliation with them, just happy user of this device since 2020
If that’s the only reason might as well check out this https://www.invizbox.com/invizbox-2-protonvpn/
One time investment for sure but what I like it that lets met block any analytics of my Roborock vacuum, LG fridge and Mile washing machine and conserving my privacy (by having them on dedicated ProtonVPN WiFi network)
The streaming companies aren’t their customer. Why would they care?
By that argument, why support my iPad? Anyway, I want to be able to make changes quickly, and router-level configuration is anything but. Lastly, I live with someone who needs to use a work VPN, so I don’t want to screw over a housemate.
Removed your comment as it is wrong. An AppleTV app for Proton VPN is coming.
The app itself still works, though, but the AppleTV doesn’t even get that.
How does this answer anything
I live with friends and it was easier to lock it down so the kids (and cousins) can’t do something the parents wouldn’t like.
Apple TV is objectively the best out-of-box streaming device available in terms of features and privacy.
I don’t think that is the case. They literally use streaming as one of their selling points on their site:
“Stream from anywhere
Proton VPN unblocks a wide selection of popular online media services, allowing you to access your favorite streaming content from anywhere in the world as if you were at home.
Our fast server network and unique VPN Accelerator technology also ensure your experience is smooth and free of buffering.“
I take my AppleTV with me while traveling so it would be very helpful to have it on the AppleTV to stream content from my home country that I pay for with the various streaming services while abroad.
