Aura identity theft protection review - Is it worth it?

So, I tried out Aura identity theft protection…

I have been testing Aura Identity Theft Protection for quite some time. This is a popular monitoring tool that claims to offer everything you may need to stay safe online.

Here’s everything that you need to know about it, along with my experience and random thoughts.

General Overview

  • Based in United States
  • Platforms: PC, Mac, Android
  • Customer support: 24/7 US-based support staff
  • Money-back guarantee: 60 days
  • Starting at $9/month with coupon below

Monitoring Tools

Feature Description
Identity monitoring In-depth monitoring of financial and personal data to prevent identity theft.
Credit monitoring Credit file surveillance that includes three major credit bureaus. (Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax)
Dark web monitoring Searches the dark web for sensitive information leaks and informs you if your identity is compromised.
Financial transaction monitoring Looks for suspicious activities in your investment, credit, and banking accounts.
Identity theft insurance A policy of up to $1 million for identity theft-related expenses

Aura provides nearly real-time credit monitoring that includes extensive annual reports. It constantly checks for unusual transactions, recently activated credit cards, and loans. If needed, I could quickly lock my banking accounts. It also provides 2-factor authentication.

Additional Features

Feature Description
Fraud calls protection Prevents spam calls
No-logs VPN app Used to regain privacy and maintain anonymity online
Browser extension Chrome, Firefox, Edge
Antivirus Looks for and eliminates trackers and malware
Password manager Safely stores your passwords
Vault Secure cloud storage with 1 GB of space
Experian CreditLock Let’s you lock your Experian credit report
Lost wallet remediation Helps you quickly cancel lost debit or credit cards
Child protection Parental control app for a safe digital environment

Aura has a lot of extra tools for boosting security, but some of them are underdeveloped. Its VPN doesn’t allow you to pick servers and limits you to the US, so I’ll rather continue using NordVPN. I was pleasantly surprised with its password manager, which I use often. There’s also a convenient lost wallet feature, which I thankfully didn’t have to use yet.

Usability

Aura has a user-friendly interface and is easy to set up. The dashboard can be customized to show relevant information. I’ve tested it on iOS and PC and never experienced issues.

Plans and Pricing

Default pricing for individuals is $12/month, but the coupon below will drop the price to $9/month, with even bigger discounts for couples and families.

Since each plan comes with a suite of features, Aura is a bit more expensive than Zander and similar competitors. I recommend going for an annual plan, as it comes with a 60-day refund guarantee in case you aren’t satisfied. I see that Aura and LifeLock have many similarities, but Aura looks to come out ahead in most areas, and they’re offering a nice deal (see below).

Pros and Cons

Pros Cons
Solid antivirus A bit pricey
Comprehensive identity theft protection and credit monitoring Some additional features are subpar
Dark web monitoring
Up to $1 million in insurance coverage
Varied subscription plans
Parental control app
Password manager and VPN included
24/7 customer support
3-bureau credit monitoring included in all plans

Overall, Aura seems like a well-rounded theft protection app. But I’m sure I’m missing some things here.

Do any of you also use it? Did you find any better alternatives?

Aura sure does look solid on paper. I may just switch to using it instead of LifeLock as it is more affordable and comes with extra security features.

I’ve been using Aura for a few months now, and I have to say, it’s been worth every penny. Before Aura, I was constantly worried about identity theft, especially with all the horror stories you hear. They have a bunch of great features, like monitoring your credit, alerting you to suspicious activity, and offering insurance. I even got alerted to a suspicious charge within hours!

After using Aura for the past few months, I have to say it is well worth it. You get so much more than just identity theft protection. I love the approach of offering 3-bureau monitoring with all plans, even the cheapest subscription plan is covered by this. I also think it’s a good value when you consider the VPN and antivirus solution together.

Yes it is definitely worth it, especially the extra privacy tools you get with the VPN and also antivirus. This year has been insane with data breaches (I was in the AT&T breach that affected millions). And you see new breaches in the news nearly every week. Your review of Aura is a good overview of the main facts. I would also add that I really like Aura’s US-based customer service.

Thanks for this comprehensive Aura review :). My friend recommended it, as it offers extensive credit monitoring.

By the way guys, this coupon still works. I have been using Aura for the last two weeks, and it has surpassed my expectations.

Aura also has comprehensive and very affordable credit monitoring. I know that other theft protection services have similar capabilities, but they are more expensive.

Aura was a perfect choice for me. It offered just a right amount of privacy protection that I was looking for. I mean nowdays you can`t trust ISP-s anymore in anyway to protect you from unwanted data leeks. But Aura offers me exactly that. Well worth investment if you care about your digital footprint and digital privacy.

Been using Aura for a while now and honestly, it’s been pretty good. The alerts are fast and they cover a lot—credit monitoring, dark web scans, etc. The premium plan is kind of pricey, but they seem to be pretty solid at catching suspicious activity before it gets too serious. Worth it if you’re willing to pay a bit more for the peace of mind. Definitely better than some of the cheaper services I’ve tried.

Wouldn’t Aura falling under US jurisdiction be problematic?

Thanks for this, just decided to test Aura for 60 days.

Did you switch to Aura in the end? Has it been better for you than LifeLock?

Its dark web monitoring feature has done a lot to calm my nerves after this latest massive data leak.

This is exactly why I use Aura as well.

What other theft protection apps have you tried?
