Cheapest Way to Connect On-Prem Lab to Azure? (Avoiding Azure VPN Gateway Costs)

Hey everyone, I’m looking for a cost-effective way to connect my on-prem homelab to Azure. I previously set up a Site-to-Site VPN using pfSense and Azure’s Basic VPN Gateway, but the cost is a bit too high for my budget.

Would it be possible to deploy a pfSense (or another VPN appliance) in Azure and establish a Site-to-Site VPN with my on-prem pfSense instead of using Azure’s VPN Gateway? Has anyone done this before, and are there any gotchas to watch out for?

I’d like to use this setup for homelab migrations, testing, and learning, so I’m looking for a budget-friendly solution. Open to alternative suggestions as well!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Yeah there sure is, he’s a YouTube video covering the process
