I got Wireguard and PiHole setup in a VM on Google’s Cloud.
With the QR Code my Motorola phone connected just fine. I use the public Wifi at the Library and of course some websites are blocked. My phone can access those easily but the Chromebook while I entered all the information and it connected, the websites I need to use are blocked on while still able to access it on phone via Library Wifi without issue.
What could be the problem?
Have you checked accessing them from that IP without the VPN?
Lots of websites block specific, known VPS/VM/VPM IP ranges (or even ASNs) as an attempt to fight off spam and other attacks.
I can access a lot more from WG on my home connection than i can from my VPS.
Wireguard implementation seems to have some issues for chrome OS.
My chromebook will constantly reconnect and not establish a proper tunnel, and the only thing that fixes it is rebooting the chromebook.
The native wireguard app isn’t any better on this front. So honestly i gave up.
I checked with the IP with the VPN on and the disconnected, checked my IP with it off, copied down and then turned the VPN back on.
It didn’t change it was still connecting to the source and couldn’t access the same site I did on my phone connected to the same AP.
I could use the app as I didn’t on my phone. But since Chrome OS 5.x Wireguard is built-in to Chrome OS VPN.

Tunnel Bear works fine, it’s a Chrome Extension of course. Right now I can’t afford $9 a month, I need even that small amount to put back into this new business I started.
I went for the low cost but complex route as I found running this for “free” inside Google’s low cost tier which actually ends up being $7-8 a month if they did charge me and I get ad blocking to boot (Pi Hole).
Regardless, I will eventually have another Windows Laptop so I can use it for that as well.
For now I will keep trying and also look at other options including buying access for a year which can work out to under $5 a month from mainstream providers.
