Are we able to use Cisco Anyconnect alternatives when using remote access VPN to a Cisco ASA 5506-X?
yes the built in microsoft L2TP or IPSEC client.
the shrew vpn client.
you don’t need anyconnect. you only need anyconnect to run vpn over tcp 443.
we use both of the former in some places. it’s easier for some firms to use the built in microsoft client that looks like a dialup
our users all work from home where they have every port open
I am not familiar with anything that will work in place of Anyconnect. What problem are you trying to solve?
+1 for openconnect (-:
AnyConnect can do IPsec as well, and it has other abilities that some like to use.
I am currently using an ASA 5506X at home that I got for free. I configured a remote access VPN to connect to my home network with Macs and Windows laptops. But I would love to connect to my home network using my phone. However, you need a license for that.
I’ve seen OpenConnect on Android, also BSD, Linux, macOS, Solaris, Windows, and OpenWRT for some routers. I don’t know if it exists for iOS or iPadOS.
yes but it’s not free. my point is there is nothing we need for a simple tunnel other than built in windows or the shrew client
For home/super small business stuff I lean towards pfsense/or random nix box with openvpn on it, there is an openvpn client for just about everything.
Sorry, I don’t think you are going to find anything. Your best bet is going to spin up an open source (free) firewall behind your ASA and configure it as an OpenVPN server for which there is a free mobile client. You would just configure a PAT on the ASA to send the OpenVPN traffic to the pfsense firewall.
I’m pretty sure the base ASA license includes 2 sessions of remote access VPN, and you can get the AnyConnect client from the app store.
Just correcting your misinformation about AnyConnect.
I agree. I am just trying to see if I can make do with what I got instead of buying a new device. But I thought about buying a Protectli box.
you only need anyconnect to run vpn over tcp 443.
no misinfo at all.
Dictionary
need
verb
require (something) because it is essential or very important.
you may like it, but you don’t need it. there is zero reason to use it other than this. i can run a basic vpn with almost anything, LOL
frankly, i never cared if my users were trapped a starbucks or somewhere only port 443 was an option
If you have a hypervisor you can stand up a free pfsense firewall vm
