Couple of questions regarding China: VPN + iMessage

I did search but a few threads were outdated as VPN is always updating.

Does anybody have a good recommendation for a VPN to use in China to access Facebook/Instagram? I will be in China for a little over a week and I know a lot have free month trail.

Second question is a little random but I am in a group chat with friends (using iMessage so I will have access through the trip via wi-fi). Obliviously group chat can be unfiltered and with the country monitoring web data - any issues here? I can easily just leave the chat for the week but don’t know if I am overthinking it. Edit - I mean like the “locker room” content that occurs within the chat.

Yes you’ll have group chat via iMessage in China. And a good VPN I use is SurfEasy or Astrill. Hope it helps

I used ExpressVPN last September in China and it worked fine. China routinely cracks down on VPN use, but many VPN providers manage to stay a step ahead.

Once you’re connected to a VPN, you should have access to anything you normally use over WiFi (like iMessage).

Thank you for the VPN suggestion I will check both out. I know I will have iMessage but I guess what I should be asking is that should I be concerned of the content of message that others send via iMessage while i am in China

Not yet. I was going to test a couple out toward late march (before my trip).

I’m here now, express vpn and super vpn are working well

It looks like neither of them work for China.

China recently upgraded their fire wall so you might have to do some research. That’s what I used with I lived there
