Dedicated IP offering

Today I got an offer to upgrade to a dedicated IP. I’m aware of the up- and downsides in practical terms, but that’s not the issue here. Available locations are limited to Germany and The Netherlands.

When I decide to accept a dedicated IP, it automatically adds to the duration of my subscription. Price is $3.75 a month and (converted) 54,45 euro for a year, according to SS. However, I can’t select a year only (no option to), because it’s coupled to my subscription duration, making it nearly double the price, in my case.

I can live with the year subscription, but I feel a bit taken back paying almost double in advance and not be able to test or see if it works out.

What’s your take on this?

Same i think it is bs that they did that.

Remember this, Dedicated IP’s are not good for Privacy

Remember if you pay ahead for anything with SurfShark and it fails - they will not refund your money.

Yes and depends.

I agree as in that it being static leads to the possibility of sites or other factors “recognising” the IP. Outside of that Surfshark also 2 choices after getting an dedicated VPN … if you use the default “easy” method, the IP is actually bound and shown on your account which means that if the government ever asks for data, they WILL know the IP.

However Surfshark does offer an second option. With the advanced settings you can have them create an wireguard/VPN config for you, encrypt the information that allows the VPN database to link your IP address to the static address and give you the key before deleting any data from their side.

The downside for this are the fact that the moment you do this, Surfshark can and will not support you with issues in regards to the IP, refunds are not possible anymore and if you lose the data they gave you to connect … youre fucked.

The good side ofcourse being that regardless of it still being an static IP, it at least should not be able to be tracked down to the source IP.

If it’s from a company like surfshark, that you can trust. I have it, makes surfing the internet way more comfortable, without all these “I’m not a robot” all the sites that block VPNs. If you do let’s say something not so nice you can always switch to multihop.

There are many use cases where you just want a secure IP but not necessarily a private one… Banking, remote working, Netflix, legal streaming, etc. Coming from various IPs and known retail VPNs are red flags.

Not privacy in the long run with deidcated IP. If you trust your data with them, well good luck.
