You are better off turning on international roaming (and yes, you can search in google and watch netflix using your roaming data) in China.
Exactly what I’m experiencing now, ExpressVPN does NOT work in China!
I bought ExpressVPN service for the sole purpose to use it for my trip to China, I was surprised this most expensive serice did not work. I had to buy another service just to contact expressvpn support!
Is expressvpn spending all their money on advertising???

Yup PSA to the people: very on/off and requires reconnecting to a new location every couple of minutes. Service finally gave out completely earlier this week

That is exactly what I did, and even google map worked, which was surprising. No need for VPN. That said, I’m incredibly frustrated to have paid for ExpressVPN and only got it to work a few hours for a whole month, and then had to pay the second months because it’s hard to cancel (need to cancel in time, and then need to press the cancel button multiple times, as they try to trick you)
Just confirmed expressvpn is not working in china after having bought it prior to arriving today. Extremely frustrating but just came across shadowlocks.
What about Astrill? Any luck with that?
Or is it better to go with this Shadowsocks thing? Never heard of it before, but someone I know who used to live in China mentioned something called Shadowrocket.
