Just updated the ExpressVPN app on a Raspberry Pi to 3.38.0.3-1 (the only version offered on their site, and the version it was nagging me to update to), and with both Raspberry Pi’s Debian versions 10 and 11 it fails to start, complaining about needing GLIBC_2.32 and GLIBC_2.34.
I can’t find any useful information on their web site or release notes on what the OS dependency is, other than Debian LTS (which AFAIK currently is Debian 10, Buster.)
Any advice / help?
This seems to be a known issue running Expressvpn for Linux on Raspberry Pi (64-bit)
Some linux devices tends to create multiple OpenVpn processes when reconnecting.
AFIK, their engineers are already working on it
Had the same issue. Was given this working link when I contacted their support - https://www.expressvpn.works/clients/linux/expressvpn_3.37.0.2-1_armhf.deb.
Wow, posted this 4 days ago, have the same exact problem. I also tried with Raspberrypi ports of Bullseye and Buster, getting the same error on both, just like you.
Mods removed the post for “not researching” on the raspberry pi sub, so glad you asked.
Asked ExpressVPN support but they didn’t give me a concrete answer, so I thanked them and exited the chat, thinking it was my fault for installing it on Bullseye, but it doesn’t even work on Buster either.
I spent ages trying other options (lite, older Pi versions etc) before seeing this post.
I agree with the other peeps.
expressvpn_3.37.0.2-1_armhf.deb is good,
expressvpn_3.38.0.3-1_armhf.deb causes the GLIBC errors.
BTW - I used 32bit ad 64bit just didn’t work
I had the same problem, wish I’d found this reddit last week. Spent two hours trying to figure this out on my own (even tried to update GLIBC files but couldn’t), also chatted with ExpressVPN support and they tried to say it was on my end as well!
They did send me a link to the older version that was posted on here though, which of course worked. It would be useful if ExpressVPN could actually post something on their website to say that they are aware of this issue.
Happening to me on Buster 32 bit and Bullseye 32 bit.
This works - I chattet with the support and they suggested to update GLIB, which does not work. Wasted a couple of hours, but downgrading actually helped. TY!
I googled a lot, went through release notes and ExpressVPN knowledge base and all of Reddit, so there wasn’t anything to be found. Also tried the chat but it crashed on the middle and I decided I have mentally more rewarding things to do on my vacation.
