Finally switched from Chrome to Firefox. What are some essential extensions you'd recommend?

I of course have uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, RES, Imagus (which seems buggy lately) and Return YouTube Dislike.

I miss the official Google GMail button that shows how many emails I have, but other than that I’m growing very accustom to the much better user interface/experience.

I have only uBlock Origin. Enough for me for the time being.

Privacy badger is unneeded with the correct config for uBO. I recommend, even hugely recommend, SponsorBlock. saves sooooooo much time. Proton Pass (which I use)/ Bitwarden for your passwords. free forever and very recommended.

Use only one ad blocker.

And I would use as few extensions as possible. Although I like these ones:

If you’re diehard Dark Mode user, use UltimaDark instead of Dark Reader for optimal performance.

Violentmonkey for modifying/hacking/slashing webpage.

Stylus for personalize websites.

Bitwarden,
Facebook Container,
Multi-Account Containers,
uBlock Origin

Aside from some that have already been mentioned (uBO, Sponsorblock, RES, FF Multi-Account Containers), here are some others that I use:

  • Indie Wiki Buddy: automatically redirect to independent fan wikis instead of shitty fandom wikis. Also supports redirecting fandom wikis to a breezewiki, which is an alternate frontend for fandom wikis which cleans up the UI.
  • LibRedirect: redirect certain websites to alternative frontends. Has lots of different sites builtin, but I use it to redirect twitter to nitter which allows you to see full replies and threads without logging in.
  • Youtube shorts block: Redirect Youtube shorts to normal video pages.
  • Redirect AMP to HTML: redirects AMP links to normal webpages. Explanation of AMP if you don’t know.
  • Load Reddit Images Directly: lets you properly view Reddit hosted images in the browser instead of the HTML page that Reddit normally forces.

If you use Amazon:

  • Keepa for Amazon: adds a price history chart to amazon product pages. Super helpful if you buy off of Amazon.
  • Camelizer (CamelCamelCamel) for Amazon: similar to Keepa, but instead has a button in the URL bar to view the price chart. Useful if you use CamelCamelCamel for Amazon price alerts as you can quickly add alerts with this. Probably not necessary to have both Keepa and Camelizer, but I use both as I like the Keepa price chart and I have already been using CamelCamelCamel for price alerts.

If you use Steam:

  • Augmented Steam: adds a number of useful features to the Steam store on the web. Tons of customization options so you can pick which features you like.

If you use Letterboxd (film tracking website):

uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger

https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock?tab=readme-ov-file#all-programs

Do NOT use uBO with any other content blocker. uBO performs as well as or better than most popular blockers. Other blockers can prevent uBO’s privacy or anti-blocker-defusing features from working correctly.

Privacy Badger is unnecessary with using uBlock. I would recommend Tabliss, for a very beautiful, and handy, and very customizable quality of life start page

Ublock origin, dark reader +( password manager)

uBlock Origin (in the settings under Filter Lists check all of Annoyances), the rest is up on you what you need.

I created an add-on to block websites/ IP addresses: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-CA/firefox/addon/website-ip-address-blocker/

If you have uBlock origin, you can use filter list to perform the same thing. I made this add-on to be simple and friendly for users that aren’t tech savvy.

Try out the open source new tab extension that I made: BlankSlate (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/blankslate/)

BTW, I just use uBlock Origin.

The following three are mandatory for me:

  • uBlock Origin: Ad Blocker
  • Gesturefy: Use mouse gestures to control the browser
  • Dark Background and Light Text: Easy to use extension to force dark mode on websites

Then here’s some nice-to-have:

  • KeepassXC-Browser: Connection to password manager KeepassXC
  • Nitter Redirect: When going to an X/Twitter URL, it automatically redirects to a Nitter instance (I use https://xcancel.com)
  • SponsorBlock for Youtube: Skip sponsor segments in Youtube videos
  • Youtube Shorts Block: Displays Youtube shorts as a normal youtube video

Others already recommended the popular ones so I’ll recommend Clipboard2File, I missed it after switching from Opera and use it a lot.

you can add gmail to the bookmarks toolbar, also don’t use privacy badger, ublock is more than capable to handle everything.

Tabliss ; uBlock ; Bitwarden (Or others) ; Sponsorblock and show dislikes (If needed)
For most other stuff i use Violentmonkey etc.

YouTube-shorts block - turns any YouTube Shorts video link into a regular YouTube video. You can do this manually, but this just saves you the step.

Load Reddit Images Directly - Instead of loading the awful Reddit image page, this just gives you the image directly.

Bypass Paywalls Clean - you need to install this one yourself, it’s not on the official extensions store (search for the extension name + “Firefox”). This basically eliminates paywalls on news sites. Sometimes it works directly, other times it will give you a link in the upper left to an archive or alternate option.

Facebook Container - this might be in by default? If not, it just makes any Facebook or Facebook-owned sites open in a “container” tab, which is kinda like incognito for specific sites. I have a similar addon for Twitter links, but that plus Firefox privacy settings basically break Twitter anyway. No big loss.

Notifier for Gmail - I use this one primarily because when Gmail went through a redesign a few years ago, they made the “Mark all as read” option extremely slow, and this addon has that option built in, so no more annoying “Are you sure you want to leave this page?” messages when you’re just trying to mark your Gmail messages as Read.

Privacy - I love this for signing up for random new services/stores, because I basically don’t have to rely on their shit cancellation policies, dark patterns, or 14-day trials that require a card. I just make a new card for that specific site, and when I’m done, I can instantly cancel the card, so they can’t charge me anymore. You don’t need the extension to use their service, but it does make it more handy.

SponsorBlock for YouTube - this is a crowd-sourced extension where people mark segments of YouTube videos as a number of different categories - from sponsor segments to interaction reminders, etc. and automatically skips them for you. There are several different categories you can choose from and it will basically cut the fat out of a YouTube video, and you can allow specific channels through as well, if you don’t want to block a channel you like.

uBlock Origin - Naturally.

Rice your browser with userChrome.css.
