Good options for a free network wide vpn

I’m not looking to get Netflix in every country or anything like that. I know that express, nord, etc exist so that’s not really my question

I simply am curious if there is a good resource/vpn that I can point my Firewalla at to have all the traffic go through it for the sake of hidding from my isp. Not sure if things like that exist but I figured if anyone knew it’d be here.

As already mentioned, if you are caring about your privacy, then you should be careful even by selecting a paid VPN option. Going for free will give you even more potential risks than just using no VPN at all. IMO.

You’re going to be severely limited (as in throttled and/or quota imposed) by any free option. As they say, you get what you pay for. You can often times find lifetime unlimited subscriptions for $50 or less. I see KeepSolid and several others offer this.

I really really like surfshark. It’s not free but fair prices and they offier wireguard and dedicated IPs if you want that. I usually get 800 up and down with surfshark on my firewalla.

If it’s free, they’re selling your data…

I really don’t need to hide my traffic. I do have a free VPN set up through Proton.me. I use their email service some for end to end encryption with GPG. They offer one free vpn to a list of VPNs the provide…. Most are at max. Again, I have it set up but only throw some things at it every now and then. You could do a Monthly Subscription or a pay as you go with Mysterium VPN. It is a decentralization service. Everyday people allowing you to use their bandwidth (and IP). You select the region and they get you to a node. Uses WireGuard for VPN.

Privacy VPNs are overrated IMO. If you don’t want to read the whole article, at least look at the parts with the cat pictures. https://overengineer.dev/blog/2019/04/08/very-precarious-narrative.html

Do what I did grab an old box laying around and put two Nic cards in it load with Pfsense program Open VPN activate two-factor point traffic to Port 1194 restricts traffic to only services that you need. Total cost free

I don’t understand it. Isn’t any VPN can do the job? Just find a server that is close enough to your location, and the speed won’t be distorted much.

Thanks. And yes good point I don’t want to be severely throttled

Mullvad is pretty legit and I was going to switch from PIA to them until I learned there is no support for port forwarding. :frowning:

This.

I used the free VPN and email for a while. I’ve become such a big fan that I went paid. As u/archer19861986 says, the free sites are usually pretty close to maxed out, but that never really hurt me much.

In the spirit of full disclosure, my ISP back then only gave me (allegedly) 25 down.

YMMV

How does this hide the traffic from ISP

Yes any vpn can do the job. Looking for a reputable and free one

My first post was because I did not read your whole post I do apologize now for DNS traffic having HTTPS activated it hides where you are going when going out to the internet

You won’t find any free vpns to config to firewalla at least not any legit safe ones

Well, free is often conflicting with reputable and speed in the world of VPN. When you are not trusting your ISP, It would be equally legitimate to question any free VPN. And if it is free and reputable, everyone would be joining and speed is traded off.
