Google Chrome / VPN connectivity advice

Hi Guys,

I am looking for some advice and hopefully someone who is much more tech savvy could help me.

So I currently have a VPN which is mainly used for streaming and to get past geo-blocking. This good on my phone but I am unable to Chrome Cast to my TV due to the modem being on my normal I.P. And when my phone is on the VPN they are using different I.Ps.

I have done some reading online and can see that VPNs can be added to some modems. I currently have a Sagemcom f@st 5366 lte modem which was supplied by my Telco with the internet. Is anyone aware if you can add a VPN to this? And possibly have instructions. I have logged into the modem but can’t see any options for it/don’t know what I’m doing lol.

Or would I be best to purchase a VPN router and connect it to the modem so that I have one access point with a VPN and then my normal modem.

Thanks and I hope that all makes sense.

If Your modem is an LTE based device then its best to have a second, dedicated router for VPN. Generally speaking telco supplied devices run on firmware that has most features blocked off.

You would basically want a device that supports VPN and a USB port.

You can do a bit of research but my bet is on an Asus router would be able to do this.

If you want something more sophisticated and are comfortable with advanced configuration, mikrotik has this kit for you
