Hola VPN question

Hello, I have a question. Sometime in 2021 or earlier, I installed the Hola VPN plug-in for Google Chrome, I didn’t know then that it was dangerous. My IP address is such that the person living next to me who has Internet from the same provider as me has the same IP address, and only the Internet provider has access to the router (I cannot log in to this router). And now the question is, if I had this Hola VPN plug-in downloaded, could someone gain access to the camera connected to Wi-Fi? Or even to my Webcam?

Correction, you and the person next to you will not have the same public IP, unless you are both connected to the same network. Also, usually you can login to your router, try the default credentials or just reset it.

Now to answer your question, the simple answer is no, they can’t. However, if the developer of the Hola VPN extension put some malicious code and asked for webcam permission during the installation and you granted it that permission, then yes, the extension can have access to your webcam.

Yes but I Heard that Hola VPN use something like “Peter to Peer” or something like that. And I Heard that it means The person getting my IP and Im getting someone else IP so The person who gets my IP could get access to my Webcam or WIFI camera?

You mean peer to peer (P2P), this is not how it works, you don’t swap IPs with other peers, and by default, using a P2P VPN will not expose your internal network to other peers.

So no one could have access to my WIFI camera or Webcam, even if i had a public IP? I Heard about Hola VPN and how they using peoples data so now Im kinda parranoid about that

Everyone on the internet has a public IP. If your Wi-Fi camera is exposed to the internet, then that’s a different story. I am not sure about Hola VPN privacy policy, but they only can intercept the unencrypted traffic going through their VPN servers. Furthermore, keep in mind once you disconnect the VPN, you are out of that network and you are saying it happened 2021 or earlier, there’s nothing to worry about here, really.

I mean my camera is connected to The WIFI so Iv been worry about that someone could break into my network and then to my camera because of using this VPN. So is this possible or not?

Generally speaking, using a VPN doesn’t introduce new risks, it actually secures you. If someone (by any means) compromised your machine, they can reach your Wi-Fi camera, so, your worrying about the VPN is not the right thing to do.

So someone can Gain Access to this camera but not because of Hola VPN? (Btw now Im talking about The camera that is not connected to my computer but to The WIFI)

It’s possible, but there are a lot of factors involved.
