Id like to disable ProtonVPN (free tier) on Safari and a couple of game launchers but keep it on everywhere else. Is it possible?
Impossible. VPN works on deep network layer, lower then application level.
One thing needs to be clarified: the “deep network layer” of macOS has APIs for pre-application configuration of VPN, but it’s inclusion the source of application, not exclusion. You can’t just “disable” one app from VPN, but it’s possible to set VPN for specified application only.
Many thanks! I did not know it was not possible. I already use private relay on Safari, but it doesn’t cover other applications unfortunately
It is possible on windows and android. ProtonVPN has a feature called split tunneling that lets you bypass the VPN per application.
Hopefully that feature makes go to Mac/iOS eventually.
