My son is getting his first phone. I want all his internet access to go through the WireguardVPN I have on my Firewalla Gold. I installed the client on the phone, scanned the QR code in the Firewalla App, and it’s running.
Is this all I need to do to force his phone’s internet access through my router? When I look at his device in the Firewalla app, the VPN tab is off.
One of the selections at the bottom of wireguard app when you edit the connection allows you to switch to on-demand. That will re-activate the connection any time the phone is restarted. Otherwise anytime the phone is rebooted you will have to manually restart the service.
Edit: Also when you say router do you mean your FWG or the wifi? Wireguard will route through the FWG. Additionally, what mode is your FWG in?

For the WireGuard app setting you mentioned, is it in his phone?
Yep, at the bottom of the WireGuard setup page and it gives two on-demand options (WiFi or cellular).

Hmm I only see “on demand activation”.
All I see is “on demand activation” as a section with On demand off, which I can’t change. This is in the WireGuard app on the device.
Ah I found it. There was an edit button after clicking the profile.
I’m using Android and I don’t have an “on demand activation” option inside the Wireguard profile at all. The VPN works fine when not connected to home wifi, but I don’t want to have to turn off the VPN for connectivity to be maintained when I am at home. I think this functionality might only be offered on the iOS app.
That’s what I have on my iPhone 13 but your phone could be different.
