Hi! I am so happy to be here. I love learning languages, and I have got tremendous help along the way when I’m picking up English. Just thinking perhaps I can be of any help to Chinese language learners by answering questions regarding the language, job, business, lifestyle, culture, etc. Please feel free to ask me any questions.
What mandarin tv shows would you recommend watching? I keep browsing through them on netflix but none catch my eye
What is the use of pinyin as a native? Is it used in schools to teach or is it something only us learners use?
Edit: Thank you to everyone that replied
Do you ever feel like you forget chinese characters or that just happens to us because we are learners?
Do you write in Chinese often or are you more like writting in a phone?
I know this is a stupid question. But I’m just curious. If someone were to say something in Chinese to you. But completely messed up some tones, but you still understood what they meant to say. Would you still let know them what they messed up on or just reply normally. My friend from Chongqing told me as long as they know what you’re trying to express. It’s fine. Is this true with most people?
omggg plz let me know how to memorize sentence structure better cause ive been in chinese for 5 years but i still struggle to remember all of them thanks edit::: i know most ones like introducing, time, eating, activities etc but when. it comes to complex things like school, home and explaining something in depth i have a harder time… hope this is helpful
Which characters are oftenly confused?
What is the culture towards foreigners? My girlfriend is from Hong Kong, and her and I are thinking of moving to China when we finish university.
I am Chinese but I am anxious to speak Mandarin because I am a horrible speaker. Do native Chinese speakers find it offensive that I keep answering them in English?
Why does the Chinese internet (and maybe in real life too) tend to use 外国人 and 外语 even when the language/nationality is known? I feel like it’s way over used compared to english.
Welcome!
What do you think about the Great Firewall? Is it a good thing or a bad thing?
How do Chinese people know what tones to pronounce names when only shown the pinyin? Like Huafei or Jinxi?
What’s your favorite character and why?
If you had to be a character which would you choose?
I’d like to know if the component 礻can change to 示 just because of a different font.
I’d also like to know if 第一回 is the same as 第一次.
Thanks a lot!
Hello! What are some aspects of chinese culture that you would only know as a native having grown up with chinese parents? Anything from traditional remedies to slang to manners. I have lived in china and speak chinese, but i’m very curious about the little details that I haven’t got to experience as a foreigner. Sorry, this is a bit more of a culture question but language things are great too!
What do you think of people who don’t speak standard Beijing Mandarin? Are they looked down upon? Is there a Mandarin accent that you find particular hard to understand?
Hi, I saw the comment of you being from Shenzhen. Just wanted to ask, how much is Cantonese used over there daily in comparison to Mandarin? I saw some videos where people would speak it for a short period of time with a thickish accent (vs HK people), before switching back to Mandarin eventually.
Where in China are you from and what’s your favourite thing about your city? Is there any specific media that you would recommend to people wanting to develop their Chinese?
What is your favorite Chinese Movie and Book
