I’m on iOS 16.3.1 and using Mullvad 2023.1. Using WireGuard, it temporarily connects to the server of choice for 10 seconds and then disconnects, same happens for other protocols too. Is this just an iOS issue or an issue with the app?
2023.1 doesn’t allow you to regenerate the key anymore. Here’s what you can try;
-
Go to the Mullvad app, disconnect from the VPN, and take note of your ‘Device name’ under the Account settings. Also take note of your account number (or copy to clipboard) and then Logout. Then kill the app.
-
Launch the iOS Settings and go to General > VPN, DNS & Device Management > VPN. Tap on the little ‘i’ next to the WireGuard profile created by Mullvad and delete it.
-
In a browser, visit mullvad.net and log into your account. There, in the Devices section, find the name that matches what you got in step 1 and delete it.
-
Launch the Mullvad app, log in with your account number and you’ll get a prompt asking if you want to allow the app to create a new VPN profile (or something along those lines).
-
Connect to VPN and see if it remains connected now. Also visit your account section in mullvad.net to check if the new Device name is listed.
-
If it still doesn’t work, I suggest using the “Report a problem” function in the Mullvad app.
Try regenerate the wireguard key, after that it should work fine again
Seems to work for about 2-3 connections until I have to repeat the steps again, I’ll try reach out to Mullvad and report the issue. Thanks for your advice though!
Use the reporting feature in the app. It sends the connection logs, which might help them narrow down the issue. You don’t have to include an email, or you can just use an email alias. In my experience, it’s a lot better (meaning faster resolution of issues) than emailing them directly.
I just remembered experiencing an issue similar to yours. In my case it wouldn’t disconnect, but just stop resolving anything after around 10 minutes each time on my iPad. Connecting to the same server on Android exhibited no issues. Sent the report using the iOS app and everything was fixed in a few hours. They replied to the alias I gave stating that the logs showed some sort of key synchronization issue on servers of that specific provider (M247, iirc) and they’d resolved it.
