Hi there, never had a VPN before but I’m thinking of finally getting one.
Surfshark appeals to me, because of the cheap price (since my wallet’s pretty dang tight right now). I’ve heard it can be hit or miss, slow speeds and laggy streaming… but the thing is I’m probably not gonna be doing much streaming with a VPN, since I’m not a big streamer in general.
If I’m only going to be using a VPN for the purposes of downloading large files, and not streaming, will surfshark perform fine without major issues? Appreciate the insight from users.
I would recommend it.
My two year subscription is almost up, and I’ll renew.
There have been occasions when the speed has slowed down, but support gave me remedies, this is usually after an update.
The Support is pretty good. You usually get same-day reply.
I really like the unlimited devices allowed for the subscription.
Yes, works well for me. I keep surfshark on almost all the time and the speeds are good that I usually don’t remember it’s even on.
I stream fine with my Netflix 4k contents… Crunchyroll can be hit or miss and I think its not VPN as it was like that before.
I find it’s great for streaming, IPTV and the like but I am hit with so many captchas when generically web browsing it hurts.
Works for me, however, the speed does slow down for me and I have to shut my client and restart surfshark. Then speeds mostly go up again
It’s trash for me, I would never renew with them again, they are soooooo slow and their apps are bad
I use it and love it. Speeds are usually 650-700 Mbps so it’s good for downloading, streaming, gaming, whatever.
I have been using it on all devices for downloading large 2-3 GB files and small files since May 2024. Speeds are excellent. Just use a speed test app and try different severs I’m sure you will find it fast enough for downloading large files. Good luck
Generally speaking I’m quite happy, only thing that is really infuriating is that the auto scan from the app always pops up in the foreground, tabbing you out of anything you are doing
Let me give you a little hint on renewing.
Go in to your account and turn off auto-renew. Then when the time gets near, go to their website, make sure you’re not logged in, go to pricing, choose your desired plan and you’ll get it at a new customer price again which is way cheaper than they were going to hit with with. I’ve done this twice, as I’ve been using them for over 5 years.
The price will be 59.13 for 27 months again.
Hi, thanks for sharing your experience. CAPTCHA requests appear when many users connect to a VPN server with the same IP address. Usually, simply switching to a different server, using a Dedicated IP or a different search engine instead of Google helps.
Would you recommend straight up turning it off for general browsing to ease functionality, and just turning it on when streaming/downloading?
Hi, I’m sorry to hear about the issues you’ve encountered with speed and our apps. Regarding speed, you could try the potential solutions from this guide:
https://support.surfshark.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012228480-How-to-troubleshoot-slow-speed-problems
As for the issues with our apps, we would be glad to investigate your specific case. Please reach out to our support team at [email protected] or via live chats on our website, and they’ll provide you with possible solutions.
Can you set it to do this at a certain time?
Thanks I’ll definitely look into that.
Is that in USD?
Is it really a good idea to post such a tip here, either way I’ll try it in 2 years time.
But it’s not just that, there’s multiple websites that time you out based on too many requests from the same IP address. Its seems the web is becoming privy to VPN’s
Yeah but just try not to forget to turn it on when you need it.
