Logging in from a country with restrictions

Hello everyone.
I’m trying to connect my family, which lives in Iran, to my Proton account. But logging in itself is impossible since the login mechanism is blocked. You need a VPN to login to Proton VPN. Luckily on Android you have the option to skip login and ‘continue as guest’, but that option doesn’t appear for everyone (seems like it doesn’t exist on iOS, I may be wrong).
Secondly, those that can login can’t connect to the paid servers while they can connect to the free servers. Somehow the free servers (with the stealth protocol) work better than the paid ones, defeating the purpose of subscribing.

Can someone offer some help or advice here? How can I log people in? Why are paid servers (in the same region as free servers) impossible to connect to? it’s a very frustrating situation.

Guest logins were a recent addition to the Android app, and we’re planning to expand support for this on other platforms in the future. Stay tuned!

All of the advice for connecting from restricted countries can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtonVPN/comments/18ns64n/tips_for_how_to_get_around_the_turkish_government/

Although initially written for our Turkish userbase, the same suggestions should work for any restricted country.

In general, the Stealth protocol should help you connect, as well as having Alternative routing turned on in the app settings. This year, we’re also working on bringing the Stealth protocol to Windows, which will help more of our users in countries with internet restrictions connect successfully.
