I’ve been using PIA for a month now(Didn’t want to commit until I was sure) and I’ve been pleased in some respects, but let down in others.
It was initially pretty fast, but lately has been quite slow. I understand it’s not going to be equal to the actual connection in which I have, but it’s been a considerable amount slower.
My use for VPN is torrenting, Netflix/Hulu. That’s basically it. Obviously it’s nice to have anonymity for banking and all that jazz what not too I suppose.
Should I just stick with PIA and buy into 39.99 for the year? Or is there a better option I should check out for my needs? Any one have any opinions on AirVPN?? Plus this Astrill one sounds promising as it seems to be circulating around these topics…
Do the others have DNS services for Netflix? Incase I want to use it with my PS3. I did initially setup dd-wrt and try the PIA VPN, but it kept getting dropped. I eventually just gave up and used the client again.
Yeah, I think maybe I should just stick with PIA. The other one I was interested in too was BolehVPN. But it’s double the price. 40 bucks isn’t much to lose if I don’t like it. I just wanted to see if there were any that were better, and were around the same price point. Thanks everyone!
I’ve tried out VPNinja and Boxpn
VPNinja
-Slow
-Few Servers
-Questionable log/P2P policy
Boxpn
-Fast
-Lots of servers
-No logs kept
-No OpenVPN support
I tried these two out because they both allow 2 simultaneous accounts for around $5-6 a month. I’ve been pretty happy with Boxpn.
How about a service without a subscription plan? Paying only for the days you use it? Cloudnymous offers this.
I’m happy with their speed and spent only $5 in 3 months connecting to their $0.15/day servers located in US. Isn’t this what you need?
Ive been using Mullvad OpenVPN after having a horrible experience with another VPN company who I wont mention here, browse http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin and you'll come across that review :) I am not an affiliate or a staff memeber of Mullvad. Just an end usr.
Anyways, I LOVE Mullvad! The have a proper Linux client for OpenVPN that works flawlessly!! The team is awsum and is fast on responding to emails, which is very nice considering some companies respond well after 24 hours. I have not had to use support at all, the emails Ive sent were just general questions. They have 3 servers located in NL, SE and DE. The speeds are pretty good as well
For die hard Nix usrs their linux client is a “must have” as it bypasses the nm-applet all together and connection is immediate. They also except BitCoin!! Have to say, I couldnt be happier!
Ive written a mini tutorial for everyones’ convenience: OpenVPN Tutorial for mullvad_linux - Pastebin.com
Jan.1 - I’m signing up for a year of ibVPN for $26

i use their P2P on OpenVPN so I can torrent from
USA anonomously, and secure my browsing from
my very intrusive cable TV ISP provider.
BolehVPN is a very good VPN service. Runs fast and keeps no logs, however it is kind of pricey. It costs almost same for 3 months as PIA does in a year, IIRC. I’ve actually been considering switching to PIA though to Save some money.
Have been through a few VPN sites and in all honesty don’t really know that much about the different levels of service or what to really look out for. However I did check over VPNDirect:
http://www.vpndirect.com/
P2P/btorrent friendly
No logs
Unlimited bandwidth
Very affordable plans
Decent server locations
No restriction on the number of household PCs on one account.
The big thing for me was when I emailed them to ask how many PCs I can have on my home account. They replied within 24 hours.

I use astrill VPN. Works well for me.
Yes. If you are experiencing slowness, change PIA servers. I’ve also noticed that it is slower when I’m on WiFi, so plug in if you can.
PIA is a good option but there are many out there better than PIA… try PurevPN, hidemyass, StrongVPN… or if you are still having trouble finding a good VPN visit a good Review site.
Client? I use a Mac, so I don’t even need a client. OS X can handle VPN connections on its own. All you need is the connection info and password.
I don’t care for the client on Windows 8. I usually use the OpenVPN client or just Windows networking.
I use PIA, but the only other I can recommend from experience is IVPN. They also use OpenVPN client which is important to me personally, though I had mixed results with their speeds which is what led me to try PIA. But you may have the opposite experience in that regard, so worth trying imho.
Also, the other mod is a fan of ibVPN and sometimes gets discounts for them.
For future reference, is there a reason I get downvoted for stating my opinion in this sub?
Well, not quite, the client uses OpenVPN, for which the Mac OS doesn’t have functionality built in. You’d have to install some extra stuff.
It’s like on Skype: You simply put money into your account (min $10) and spend from them. If you connect for one day, your balance is decreased with $0.15 (for daily paid servers) for a whole 24h usage without any limits. If you don’t use it afterwards for a long time, you’ll keep the balance untouched. Really useful for occasional connections.
Connection speed is enough for me. Do you plan to watch youtube with 1080p quality?
Well in that case, I’d rather use a VPN that doesn’t require a bunch of proprietary software.
