Need some help in playing warframe in college, vpn settings issue i think, wont let me login

So normally if i just use college wifi then i cant even get through the game launcher.

I installed ultrasurf (vpn) and now while it is going through the launcher i am still unable to login into my warframe account and actually play the game (it says login failed check your info).

So i am assuming i have not setup the vpn correctly and need some help regarding that.

The current settings i have show:

local listening port (26-65535) as 9666

does this need to be changed ?

proxy settings has Auto detect proxy, manual proxy setting and directly use ultrasurf.

Mine is set to the third option (directly use ultrasurf).

Can anyone help regarding this or anyone know of some way to play the game in college.

Thanks

Since I have absolutely no idea how warframe’s programmed I can’t promise this is correct, so please take this with a grain of salt. I’m going to go ahead and say that the vpn is working fine on the patcher but the moment it gets to the actual game client the game client doesn’t connect via the vpn but via the regular connection you have (pre-proxy). Ultrasurf seems to be a browser themed VPN and the patcher may be using some browser-like plugin to function which is why it worked but the application well, doesn’t use said thing. I’d recommend trying some other free VPN like hotspot shield which I know works on applications just to see if it lets you bypass the block and lets you login (this way you can make sure it’s at the very least possible).

The issue might be the VPN you are using, from looking on the website it looks like its more for general web surfing and not high demand stuff like gaming or streaming, you would probably be better off trying one that states it has high/unlimited bandwidth.

Most offer a money back period so you can try it risk free. The ones I have used are TorGuard, NordVPN and Tunnel Bear.

Personally I would say NordVPN or Tunnel Bear would be best to try as they are both super easy to use. NordVPN works for me as far as I can tell but im not connecting through a college network. As another user has stated the college may have something in place that will render the use of a VPN mute (restrictions are most likely due to low bandwidth for the amount of connections).

If your network admins are clever (as many college campus admins are) it’s blocked in DNS.

i am using the desktop version of ultrasurf so that shouldnt be a problem, ill still give hotspot shield a try.

edit: did not work

Anyway to bypass that via vpn or something, I can anyways get through the launcher.

Just out of pure curiosity, why do they go to such lengths to block games? Do they think students shouldn’t have any other hobbies/activities outside class?

It just seems odd seeing as my campus never cared, since when I had big periods of free time in between classes and no where else to go, I’d just set up camp and play.

They don’t like frivolous use of university resources, specifically the network. Security is also likely a concern.
