Not using a VPN but this shows every time I try to send a text

Any permissions that you are not using, like if you’re using it simply just a text. There’s no need for you to have phone permissions or recording permissions

If you don’t use Bluetooth devices then you don’t need " nearby devices permissions" (depending on the version of Android Bluetooth may use “location permissions”

I think the only reason the app needs location permissions that don’t include using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi is one activating all local phone number which you can do manually anyway or loading ads close to you. And they may use this permission to determine that you’re using a VPN like if the IP address you’re using is in Boston, but your location says that you’re in Miami.

It’s always good practice to disallow any permissions that you’re not using. Android 13 and up even has an option to the authenticate permissions an a app uses that hasn’t been used.

If it resolves the issue, the cost is negligible over time.

Off work at 9 so will update post around 10

Edit: EST time zone

Home wifi works, so its just public ones that don’t, so they must’ve pushed an update or something to block public wifis

so location has been disallowed the whole time apparently, I also turned off bluetooth permission but no change

no cost is negligible

My home wifi isn’t working, and I know for a fact there’s no VPN

They will still use other information You’re still going to see ads

You mentioned tim hortons so you must be in canada. The sim won’t work in canada. If your phone has esim, you could try the firsty app in the app store. It has free unlimited slow data that works with textnow.

Good to know, textnow is suddenly working again, no idea why, might still get me some free data tho
