literally within just this past week, everytime i go onto ph my recommends are full with stuff that i watched last time i was there. i am also on incognito, on firefox WITH ublock. i figured i must have accidentally not been on private, nope! cleared my history just to be safe. quit the app. reopened it. STILL there. decided, fuck it, ill trash the whole thing and reinstall firefox. my recommendations are STILL related to me!!! i have no idea how!!! i tried on incognito in safari and its just the usual startup page, so i assumed it was a firefox issue, deleted it, and switched to duckduckgo. YES i used a fire tab. the first time was fine but i went and checked again and lo and behold…. it knows me. im really at a loss for what to do here. is anybody else experiencing this??? ive been doing the same thing for years, literally never had this issue before.
HELP!!!
tdlr: no, its not because i wasnt on incognito. i checked. several times.
If you’re on PIA VPN, it could be everyone that has that IP before you recommendations
Curious: did you log in to your PH account? Kinda defeats the purpose of incognito🤔
Dont worry bro, no body cares about porn anymore, just stay on good sites and you will be okay.
would also like to apologize for asking this here. r/privacy wouldnt let me post until my account was a month old, and searches on the internet only got me a lot of “are you using a private window?” which is… not helpful. im pretty spooked by this to be honest, though im sure theres some other, only slightly less stupid thing im missing
why is this here; are you viewing it through a PIAVPN tunnel? Are you logged in?
After reading through the thread, it seems there is a mistake with the subreddit for this. This is a subreddit for the PrivateInternetAccess VPN software program, not enthusiasts of having private internet access. Although that too has overlap obviously lol
It’s possibly from a shadowprofiling from a free VPN which actually sells your routed activity, or PH is browser fingerprinting you.
use duck duck go browser and light it up when you close.
not on the VPN, plus im very certain these are mine. no, ive never logged in or even made an account haha
how do i i fix that? if you’re talking within the browsers themselves, im fairly confident thats not the issue as when i cleared my history i also made sure to clear everything else. and then also deleted the whole browser, sooo….
thank you so much! i’ll definitely be looking into that. i assume once they have me, i cant do much to delete it right? seems like its a lot more insidious than cookies, so i cant just clear it out or something
yeah, i figured out it was for a specific vpn only after making the post, sorry for that. i had assumed it was for enthusiasts like you said haha
No one is going to use your affiliate link, chill…
is there any other way to fix this?? im a college student, i dont really have the money for a vpn. is there something i can use to check if thats even the case first?
Never put a plate of cookies on your PC!!!
. i assume once they have me, i cant do much to delete it right?
Yes and no. You can delete browser data which will clear out most of the crap.
There’s a browser extension called Canvas Blocker - Fingerprint Protect which blocks\scrambles most of the fingerprinting attempts. It’s available for any Chromium-based browser as well as Firefox.
But, with that being said, it is not a replacement for VPN, which completely encrypts all your internet traffic. So while they can still fingerprint your session, it will be tied to the IP Address from the VPN service and not actually you, per se.
Use the VPN+Extension together for best effect.
This guy just uses fearmongering to get you to use his affiliate link so he can get some kickback bonus if you sign up via his link.
ill be getting that extension literally asap. is there any way i should go about deleting the browser data? id say i know how, but considering what i did last couple times didnt work…
Depends on the browser that you are using. You can probably find the steps online for your particular one.
If you are keen on using Chromium-based browsers, I suggest switching to Brave Browser: It’s very much like Chrome (and can use the same extensions), but much more privacy-oriented.
Otherwise, Firefox is highly regarded by millions, for the same reason.
